Congradulations. Thanks for sharing your journey. Hope you enjoy your new equipment.
What’s the best DAC < 6k (system specific)
A used Audio Research DAC 9, Berkeley Alpha 3 comes to mind. Should hit in the right price range. One of the ad vantages of the Audio Research is that it is going to sound a bit more analog and musical than most.  I highly recommend a contemporar...
Need a big favor picking a preamp
I would recommend a Conrad Johnson ART 88 or an Audio Research Reference 10. From your descriptions of the sound qualities you are experiencing and desire these may add the warmth and musicality without discarding the detail.
What affects front to back depth in room/ system?
If I understand your question, you are looking for something very unusual. Typically we look for the soundstage to begin at or behind the speakers… like at a concert. The stage, is where the sound comes from. The mark of a great system, in part, i...
Ken Fritz article
Now he is an audiophile.
Upgraded my cables and they transformed my system!!!
Congradulations. It is truly amazing what cables and interconnects can do. While much of the time the change is important and substantial, there are times when it is simply transformational. I think most audiophiles have that experience more than ...
Did your system getting better the more money you spent or more experience you gained?
@asctim , @mahgister   Exactly. This is one of the personal attributes you need to understand about yourself and the folks that are posting. What is your goal / personality / values? I am a fanatic, if I can find a way to get a small amount cl...
surprising comparison of tube preamps
I have a headphone amp that is powerful enough to be a headphone amp or an integrated amp and power speakers. The Woo WA5.
Integrateds: Luxman vs. Ayre?
Actually, well put. I agree, extended on top and bottom.
For those that have separate Streamers & DACS
@brskie    Congratulations. Great streamer. You should really enjoy it.
Integrateds: Luxman vs. Ayre?
@deadhead1000    Yes, many people like the sparkle. That, and all the dials make it look very very high tech… they are very cool looking. Like McIntosh, but in a completely different way.   @retiredfarmer Yes. I was trying to avoid a term that...
Music Disappearing (Roon/Tidal/Qobuz)
While not on Roon I occasionally have albums show up as no longer available… but in fact they are. I assume they replace them and some intermediate software detects temporary absence and marks them as gone… but they are there.
Integrateds: Luxman vs. Ayre?
I have listened to quite a few Luxman integrated and amps. I have owned a couple of Ayre DACs that I believe reflect the house sound… I would say the Ayre sound is smoother and more well balance than Luxman. I do not find the Ayre dry, but the Lux...
Sonus Faber's Maxima Amator, the S.F new sound ?
I am not sure there is a debate to be had here. About ten years ago Sonus Faber changed there sound by adding detail / increasing the treble energy of pretty much all models. The strong, natural mid-range bloom and nuanced bass was supplemented wi...
Tubed preamps and Power amps- How old is too old???
I have been an active audiophile for about fifty years. Typically I upgrade my system about every seven to ten years with new equipment. I found for me every ten years represents a very significant improvement in performance, worthy of upgrading. ...
