DAC for Aurender N200
There are a number of good DACs in your price range. Many people like the PSAudio. I would definitely recommend a used Audio Research Reference 9... it is more refined and detailed while remaining extremely musical. The ARC REF9 is an outstanding ...
The end of physical media is neigh
With over ten million albums...it’s not a very restrictive list. Also, Qobuz has over half a million high resolution albums. It is very seldom that I find an album not available.   More importantly, when you have access to all that music your fo...
Why isn’t more detail always better?
The way I think about midrange bloom is to consider a system that is very devoid of it. Bose used to sell a woofer (which I think it was used in the Best Buy vinyl section) with separate tweeter in a tiny 4" by 3" by 2" box. It sounded just like t...
Why isn’t more detail always better?
Detail is definitely not always better. Lots of "high end" systems excel at transparency and detail and completely miss at the music.    The detail must be there, but it should be represented in proportion to the overall presentation. If the det...
Qobuz will not work with new iphone
Typically the 30 second playing means there is a log on problem with your account. Are you using the app or the web.    I would delete any instances of Qobuz and reinstall... or log on the the web browser version.
The end of physical media is neigh
I am happy to move on. I used to have a laser disc collection, then a room dedicated to (three walls of racks) VHS tapes, then DVD , then Bluray... I only bought a couple... what was the next thing... 4K disks. I am so done with physical media. A ...
"Cleaning" Vinyl Makes It Worse Not Better!
A cleaning machine is the answer. One with a vacuum to suck up the fluid and residue or ultrasonic. I had a VPI for over twenty years and have now upgraded to the much quieter, semi-automatic Nessie. These are very high quality.
What is the first thing you do when you unwrap a new vinyl record?
Inspect it, clean on my cleaning machine, treat with Last Treatment. Put it in plastic sleeve and put a small adhesive dot on it with the year purchased, and attach LAST sticker. Then play it and enter it into my database.
What % Of Your System Are Your Cables?
In general, I don’t allocate but work towards an optimal system through testing. Then when I am done, I figure out how much I spent. I have done this more than once on systems upgrades... and in general, it turns out to be about 10 - 12 %. I think...
Do I Really Need a Dedicated Streamer?
@akg_ca  +1 i have a $22K streamer for my main system, worth every penny. I have requisite supporting equipment to make its additional quality well worth it.   My head phone system has a $3.5K streamer providing content. Also well matched. You...
Optimize or buy new gear..?
I always go through an upgrade sequence: components, positioning, interconnects and cables, power cords, enjoy for seven years of so.   The effect of wires can vary pretty widely. But I guess, in general, I'll get 80% of the sonic improvement fr...
Looking for High Quality Streamer Only Options (NO DAC)?
Well my global takeaways are that: in general you get what you pay for. The specifics vary between brands and investment levels. But in general the background noise (except on PCs not usually heard directly... not shhhh but the noise floor... allo...
Moving from a stereo amp to a dual mono set up
I hate it when something that appears to be simple spirals into a major project. I’ll be interested to hear what you think of the sound differences when complete.
Looking for High Quality Streamer Only Options (NO DAC)?
In general, streamers are like other high end audio components, you get what you pay for. My experience comes from components from the sub-$1K to ~$20K.
Looking to move to a Tube Integrated setup
I would look seriously at the AudioResesrch I-50. If your moving from as then this is probably the musical sound you are looking for. Very natural, outstanding rhythm and pace with great detail. Built like real audiophile equipment. I own PrimaLun...
