Ideas for a compact kitchen receiver?
I used to have a Tivoli Music System with a separate subwoofer. The sound was good, but I found I did not use it much. I used to have an Apple Home Pod... the big one. Sounded good as well. Also, did not use it much. I gave away the Tivoli.  I no...
vintage Audio Research DAC2 DAC3
I am not familiar with these specific DACs. But I find AI to generally get it right. But a good starting point.     Audio Research DAC2 Ultra Analog Sound Signature: Known for its warm, rich sound with a slightly forward midrange. Res...
Everything matters
True, however this is also a function of the quality of the streamer (and DAC) you use. Very high quality streamers isolate you from the network. On my system routers and etherregen made not difference. So, you can improve streaming with inexpensi...
Streamer apps critical
@moonwatcher  The skill difference among software developers is huge. There are individuals and organizations that couldn't program a simple calculator in six months, and some that could do it almost before you finished describing what you want.
Streaming Leads to Brain Rot
Streaming through Qobuz is the most wonderful advancement in music delivery technology in my lifetime. The very highest sound quality and access to over ten million albums. It is great. Not sure exactly what the article said, since the screen wou...
Western Electric 300B problem
Some tubes fail early. Not often, but they are not like iPhones and computers. It happens occasional... especially after shipping. There is a whole bunch of suspended stuff, in a vacuum, with a lot of heat. So, I would not condemn the brand. Just ...
Streamer apps critical
It's true. I own Aurender, and they have a great app. But a number of my friends have bought other streamers, some over $10K and they have very poor apps.    Having been in software development for much of my life I can attest to the fact that p...
What Speaker Cables Taught Me About Audiophiles
Yes. We are all different in our priorities. I personally have gone through stages from when I became an audiophile. I think first I pursued slam... I wanted my chest to feel the impact of kick drums, then dynamics, then detail, then imaging, then...
The Folly of Chasing Nostalgia and the Reality of the Room
Thanks for sharing your experience, unfortunate as it may have been for you. I have to admit when I feel a bit nostalgic I tend to dismiss it. Not sure I have chased it in audio, but in other areas it has proven to be problematic. Hopefully, your ...
Am I crazy to upgrade?
Great sized room and no spousal acceptance factor and you are good to go.   I would look at where you should be when done. You want equal quality from source to speakers and two channel only stuff is way better than home theater components. Espe...
Am I crazy to upgrade?
@Kennyc @deep_333  + 1 Those are huge.  Also, what is the percentage of time used for home theater vs two channel stereo?  Putting together a two channel system with a home theater is a very big compromise. They have different goals and one lis...
Retirement integrated amp for a “fiscal conservative”
There are lots of different sounds available on the market. Well regarded companies have a wide variety of sound types. There are flashy "high end sounding", holographic, natural, overly powerful impactful, overly warm. At the center is natural an...
Do I need new tubes?
That is an odd symptom. I'll second @jond 's  recommendation to put in the spare set of tubes... it'll take 10 to 20 hours for the new tubes to sound right.
Am I crazy to upgrade?
For upgrade strategy. Typically it is good to upgrade one component at a time. Speakers first. Then let them break in and then in light of what your system sounds like, go for the next step. Which could easily be any one of the support components....
Streamer Recommendations
I would recommend a used Aurender. I still have an Aurender N100 in my headphone system. Excellent software, excellent build quality and first rate audiophile sound quality, as well as great service. I also own a Aurender W20SE ($22K) and have tri...
