Got a Node 2i, what's next?
Digital can be as good as vinyl although at a bit more cost, also it can be fully satisfying at the same cost. Where it becomes compelling is with good quality digital equipment and Tidal or Qubuz streaming services. Suddenly you have access to a ...
Speaker purchase question
Strikes me as someone doing something while driving that is discourteous but not illegal. My course of action would be determined on his reaction. If it showed a genuine lack of thought and remorse for not telling you, I would let him off the hook...
When does one know it's time to upgrade?
I’ve been building and upgrading my system for 50 years. More and more I would reach a plateau where all system components were optimized and balanced and I would just stay there and enjoy the music. Then, I guess I would financially recover and s...
Recommendations on Integrated Tube Amp around $5k

My conclusion: mid level $$ analog vs digital
@jjss49 ...“i would venture to say that digital front end will outperform analog at low (1-2k) to middle levels (2-4k) but when you get into really good analog, have it all dialed in (no trivial task) it sounds better but then you are into quite e...
Why not go wireless? (And how?)
Every time I bring up subwoofers of any kind my audio guy says REL. Advanced acoustic sensing, integration features, and exceptional performance for the money. I trust him completely, have known him over 20 years and compared notes on every thing....
Sending a 110 lb amp to the manufacturer for cleaning/calibration. Good idea? How to ship?
Sim may be able to sell you the original packing materials if you can’t find them. Some companies keep these in stock forever. I think Pass does. Is there a dealer near you that can handle it. I try to let someone else do it. If Sim recommended it...
My conclusion: mid level $$ analog vs digital
In general spend an equal amount on well chosen compatible analog end and digital end... the analog will edge out the digital in detail, naturalness, and musicality at the $2K, $10K, $100K, and higher... all levels. Analog is not as convenient, bu...
Lost: streaming & changing my system HELP
Oops, I intended to say Aurender N100 Streamer (not A100)... it comes in a number of flavored. I have one in my headphone system. They make a lot of different ones.
A few not-so-obvious things I learned doing room treatment
Very good advice. I accidentally bought a house with outstanding acoustics. I have been shocked at how important they are even after decades fiddling with ribbon speakers... half the sound quality... I have to agree.
Which Phono Preamp?
I have to agree, if you like the Pass you have then the Pass is going to have a similar and complementary sound to it. I found over time mixing if you don’t have to complicates things. Same brand are made together.
Lost: streaming & changing my system HELP
I have owned Threshold / Pass stuff for most of the last 40+ years. If you like your amps and preamp then I am sure you can tuck them away. If you prefer to dip your toe in instead of blowing all of the $10K, I recommend a Schiit Yggidrasil DAC (~...
Carver M 1.5t
Carver was a very flashy designer who correctly thought lots of power was the key to transients but his implementations were not full bodied and natural sounding. I would never bought one back then, let alone new.
Lost: streaming & changing my system HELP
Sounds challenging. You might have noticed that The Absolute Sound had and article in the last two issues on downsizing Audio. Not the approach you are thinking about. But worth reading. .I can speak to streaming as I have dipped my toe in and out...
Best Bang for your Buck DAC ?
I think your instinct to go with Schiit is good. I helped a friend get his first high end DAC. It was a Yggi. In the process I bought a Gungnir multibit (for my office system). I highly recommend the Gungnir Multibit... it gets you close to the Yg...
