Recommendations for cables based on components
It is very likely you can get better sound from upgraded cables. What is your sound source? Digital / analog? How does your system sound now… I mean does it sound perfect? Thinking a dit more detail or just more of what you have? Do you really kno...
Possibly Dumb Question re:Battery as a power supply
My deepest condolences. I can’t imagine how difficult that is for you. I met my partner 35 years ago in graduate school. She had just done a marketing project on high end audio and knew someone that had purchased two Threshold S500 amplifiers! I c...
Weak link, what do ya think ?
I made the mistake of buying a Monster Power Conditioner $500+. It actually ceased to function and the company said tough… it cannot be repaired. No independent shop would cover it. I had it for my HT… I would never use one for my audio system.
Aurender music servers: higher priced ones sonically better?
Absolututely. I started with a N100, auditioned a N10 and finally bought a W20SE. Each cost improvement brings a significant improvement in performance. My Aurender streamer / DAC combo is equally as satisfying as my analog end (not a slouch: Linn...
DAC Dilemma
I think you ask very good questions. I have swapped a number of streamers, DACs, well everything actually over the last decade… a couple times… along with extensive research. First, no, entry level DACs will not blow away older high end DACs. Obvi...
Matching solid state amps with tube based pre amps
For at least of thirty years I have had tubed preamps with solid state amps. Back then it was the way to have great reliability and massive power. The preamp is so important in getting the sound right. Audio Research preamps have been at the cent...
Possibly Dumb Question re:Battery as a power supply
I would also only use the power supply sold by the company. They would have put a significant effort into making sure it sounds good and perform well. Unless, you are and electrical engineer and reverse engineer it… or actually, I have known many ...
Considerations prior to your next purchase
Actually after giving it some thought I am not sure the qualifications shouldn’t include being over 50. I didn’t have the experience in listening and understanding of sounds and music. Let alone the money to purchase synergistic high end equipment...
Looking for a new DAC streamer/server combo
Streamers and DACs are like any other audio component, the sound quality is highly varied. Most folks that want high quality output will choose separate streamers and DACs. In your price range a Schiit Yggdrasil DAC would fit well. I have evaluate...
Possibly Dumb Question re:Battery as a power supply
Some very good sounding components use battery power. For instance the streamer I use is a Aurender W20SE ($22K) uses a battery to power it. Wall warts typically are well worth replacing. I replaced the internal power supply in my $9K Sim Moon DAC...

LED dimmable lights in audio room?
@mijostyn.  I like that. I have a little LED spotlight next to my turntable for when I am listening to vinyl… with a switch accessible before I get to it.
How many watts??
In general more power is better. Watts are relatively meaningless if you desire good quality sound. Lots of current is a better indicator. If an amp, say, doubles the wattage with decreasing impedance it is a high current amplifier. But basically ...
LED dimmable lights in audio room?
I always listen to music with the lights out… just because it allows better divorcing of the soundstage from the speakers and closer emotional connection to the music. I never thought of LED and dimmers… diodes… they sound like they would be noisy.
The Importance of the Digital Cable
And you wonder why lots of people think we are screwy.
