Stand alone DAC connectivity is a bitch
I use separate DAC and Streamers on all my systems. But not all streamers are noisy. Built from the ground up as audiophile equipment is not. Having said that, Aurender is aware of that and my main system streamer is separate and actually runs on ...
Best Digital Interface
Whether a USB or traditional digital output sounds better are completely dependent on the Streamer / DAC components you have. It’s basically a question of which component is better (simplified answer). I have used both. On my headphone system I ha...
Lessons of youth
I used to know a guy with 3,000 albums and a cheap $100 turntable and was really happy. He is probably a member of a different form. There are many ways to appreciate music,
Stand alone DAC connectivity is a bitch
Streamers perform the function of converting a WiFi (packeted data stream) signal into a digital stream. The streamer cleans up the noise and times the bits. If you connect to a DAC via USB then the DAC retimes the bitstream, if you use SP/DIF or ...

Pure analog system with high power
@dhites “To continue on rfnoise's promotion of Audio Research....”Me too. Too long a list for me as I first got an inexpensive ARC preamp... then phonostage... and now all ARC gear. The span of time from first component to all was 40 years. I coul...
Why is science just a starting point and not an end point?
@perkri. “Which is why I added Nelson Pass. You don't think he listens to his amps for the final tuning? From  Stereophile in 2017:https://www.stereophile.com/content/nelson-pass-circuit-topology-and-end-science... “Exactly. I have heard this from ...
tube DAC noise

Streamer upgrade
After owning a number of streamers I converged on Aurender. They have complete lines with and without CD. I highly recommend I have there N100 and flagship W20se. They are of outstanding quality and build. Built to last a lifetime. They understand...
Full featured balanced dac/preamp advice
A good question, however I have never heard any components that would warrant a choice on the basis of inputs and output (USB under certain circumstances) versus the sound of the component. The difference in the sound of the different components w...
Why is science just a starting point and not an end point?
@ted_denney  “Because you cannot ascertain by looking at a spreadsheet which of two amplifiers you will prefer. The only way to know what anything sounds like is to listen to it....”Very nicely put!

The Sound of Speaker.
@gdnrbob. “Unfortunately, if you want to be on Audiogon, you need to develop a thick skin. There are many self-professed ’experts’ here who’s opinions would be better taken if they used a bit more tact/reserve.”.Or better yet ignore anyone posting...
What's a fair price for an Audio Research Reference 75?
I have recently heard from a couple guys that had bought new ARC REF160s and just couldn’t part with their REF 75’s. Once owned a lot people really just can’t part with them. Looks like around $5K.
Heat from amps?
I had a Pass x350 for fifteen years and it never got more than warm to the touch.
