Advice needed on MC cartridges Op. On my Frog. Previous cartridges… it has been a while, early on I had a Shure V15, Audio Techniques (?) a couple in the $500 - $750 price range. The difference… like night and day. Surface noice vanished… wasn’t just a little reduced, vanished...
Opinions of Onkyo P-3000R phono preamp Gold Note is a high end audio company, Onkyo is not. The Gold Note PH-10 is their entry for an affordable phono stage. They know how to make spectacular sounding equipment and you are going to hear that in this phono stage. It is well reviewed by ...
Thoughts on selling and upgrading Personally I always want the best sound. So, I would buy a high quality integrated with a high quality streamer/DAC (Aurender is my choice) and speakers that fit the room. This system could easily best the sound of your old one. To me your situ...
Overpowering my speakers I have usually owned amplifier of very high power. Over driving is not an issue… you are going to hear it before you do any damage. ‘However, accidentally connecting your preamp in a way to pass full volume (record out) to your amp could damag...
Vote Your Ranking -If you have an opinion on this digital subject The only controversy comes from what equipment you own and your experience level. If you have the equipment: Streaming is now capable of sounding better than Red Book in any format with High Rez files and equal to high Rez files of the same re...
Wilson Audio Sabrina for Large Room? There is room size, and there is the listening triangle. Both are important. If you actually have to move them 13’ apart, then there are two strikes. If you can simply build a 9” or so triangle in your space then they may work. But I think having ...
The Best Preamp is no Preamp? It is like not needing a power conditioner. It can work under the right conditions… but usually the best sound is achieved with one. If you are one of the special cases where you have really compatible and synergistic equipment and do not have ana...
In home speaker demo- Wilson Sabrina with older McIntosh equipment-- how long to decide? 😀👍
Advice needed on MC cartridges I moved to high quality cartridges about 30 years ago… a Van den Hull Frog (MC)… about $3,500 on my VPI Aries. It completely took my system to a whole new level. I think I put a couple thousand hours on it and 20 years of use with no maintenance. ...
Which NAS should I choose? I have had NAS for ten of fifteen years. My career was in IT… Director of IT for the last three decades. I wouldn’t bother. The age of local storage is nearly over. Streaming is what works now and into the future. I have 14tb of NAS now. I stream ...
Harmonic Technology Magic Link soldering issues I have a couple sets of Pro Silway 2 and a bunch of others above magic grade. All have been great.. and in use for many years.
In home speaker demo- Wilson Sabrina with older McIntosh equipment-- how long to decide? I would expect a few minutes will do it. Unless setup is way off. Most of the speakers I brought home were… Wow, they sound great. I am not a waffler. One word of advice. Try not to be all amped up and “ready to decide”… you want your subconsciou...
CDs And Green Markers. Please Don’t Laugh. I like CD Stoplight… it helps make discs sound better. But I stopped buying CDs now that streaming quality is at or above CD quality. All my 2,000 discs have been “Stoplite”.
Speakers: same brand? It is very important the center is the same as left and right. Most dialog on HT comes from center (85% of sound) it needs the same character as others. Certainly does help to have all the same. But it isn’t as important.
As a chill electronica listener, should I stop at a Med-Fi system? Good quality speakers are the place to start. The real trick in buying speakers is getting ones that really speak to you… you have get an emotional connection with. To do that… I really recommend listening to speakers… as many and as high end as p... |
