Law of Accelerated Returns
High end audio equipment is seldom discounted more than 10%.
What is Tight Bass?
Here is the short answer, worth every minute of the hour and a half.
Best budget turntable?
OP, I agree with @pesky_wabbit . I recommend going to The AbsoluteSound, the March issue has the Recommended Components. Stereophile also has a similar issue. These are professional reviews by people that have experience with a large selection of...
Law of Accelerated Returns
@lanx0003    Excellent… I like it. The question is, can you keep your own situation out of it. Or, are you unable to not imprint: “I can’t afford it, therefore it is not worth it.” I am able to appreciate, let’s say a million dollar system (usin...
Cardas Clear Beyond XL PC
@spearl8    Good way of explaining Shunyata. I was never able quite put my finger on it.   My system is perfectly balanced and bloomer, so for me Cardas warms things up too much. Although I am getting a Cardas Clear Beyond for my amp.
The problem with streaming
@barts  Well that is hysterical. I think I have eventually gotten something like that on all formates I gave collected.
Will a new Dac improve the sound?
I have the best DAC I have owned, the Audio Research Reference 9 CDse. I had the $22K Berkley Alpha Reference 3 DAC in my system and the sound was really really really close… a tiny itsy bit different… the ARC was a touch warmer and the Berkeley a...
I need help regarding tube phono preamplifiers
You are considering some very good phono stages… but if you want great sound from a turntable you should. I have owned Audio Research Phono stages for over thirty years… each time I upgraded researching intensely… but still staying with Audio Rese...
Roku ultra streaming versus Apple 4K TV
These solutions come from different worlds. Streaming TV has had an emphasis on video… in the home theater world, video distracts you from the audio. Audio can often serve as emphasis (heavy bass… explosions), also it is heavily processed. Process...
2nd system thoughts on vintage receivers
It is highly dependent on exactly what piece of equipment. I bought a top of the line generation one Nakamichi CD Player $2,000? (so $5-6K in todays dollars) 30 years ago. I was going through my stuff last year, found it, hooked it up. I played no...
The problem with streaming
Wow @sgreg1 now that Dragon has been well amortized down to penny a day.  Well done.
2nd system thoughts on vintage receivers
If I was feeling nostalgic and wanted a vintage radio… I would get some really early tube equipment (the really warm romantic kind) and go all the way. The kind of rolled off warmth is very soporific, perfect for a bedroom.
NAS/Streamer or server/player?
I recommend looking at Aurender. I have pursued high end digital sound since the advent of the CD. After owning an Auralic Aries G2 streamer, and a number of lessor solutions I got a Aurender N100, the sound quality is simply amazing so after audi...
Isolation Feet for Laptop
OP, seriously, if you want to take this from the theoretical to reality. Take home a real high end streamer… borrow one from a dealer Hook it into your system… the discussion will be over… assuming you have a high performance system. This is where...
The problem with streaming
We have reached a really exciting time in audio history. At long last digital can equal analog. So, for the next ten years or so, if you want the very pinnacle of sound quality you can go analog… but the shift is slowly tipping to digital.   The ...
