Why do I need power management if I have a great power cord?
@raysmtb1 Sorry, you are conflating issues. First of all, yes, you are right, one of the major improvements in components is how it address power. This is one of the keys to great sounding components… correct. But the more the more better. For i...
Are Harbeth the only warm and euphonic speakers in town ?
Older Sonus Faber, like Cremona, perfect… I owned a pair… wonderfully warm, organic and natural sounding. I have moved up the line to Olympica 3 and now contemporary Amati Traditional now.

@hilde45    +1
Schiit Freya + Class A in Stereophile
@invalid +1 and Audio Research, Conrad Johnson, Pass, and other truly high end companies will still be there. Pushing the envelope, improving the sound that is possible.
Low Level Listening and Distortion
@bigtwin The enjoyment / volume is a function of quality of system… well, in general, there are exceptions. But, in general, the better the system, the less volume is required to be engaging. A few minutes ago I was captivated by a tune at volum...
Pass Labs INT-25 or equivalent in another brand
Congradulations! I owned Pass designed amps and preamps for well over thirty years… he disowns and manufactures great equipment. It is incredibly reliable and is likely to perform flawlessly as long as you wish to keep it.
Why do I need power management if I have a great power cord?
Usually, I think about 90%+ the answer is because your system will sound much better. Mine always has. My neighborhood has underground power and I have two direct lines to my system; one for my components and one for my amp. The power seems very s...
Interesting comment on Bose Speakers.....
I have been so ashamed of Bose. I have been an audiophile for fifty years. I really appreciate a great sounding system. I can’t tell you how many times I mentioned this to someone and they exclaimed, “Me too! I own Bose!.” It is humiliating that a...
Flagship product to build around
OP,   I think it is appropriate you are reticent at committing to vinyl. I have have had it for fifty years… if I was committing to a great system now I wouldn’t bother. If I loved the idea fiddling with physical stuff and the tradition, then I ...
Will DAC always sound better going straight into a Power Amplifier?
@ozzy62    Well, put! A good quality preamp can’t hold a candle to an equivalent good quality preamp of today.
Schiit Freya + Class A in Stereophile
@mrmojo   I don’t understand your point.   I have a couple of true audiophile systems (see my UserID), I also own three Schiit components and have extensively auditioned another (Yggdrasil, Gungnir… head amp and amp). Never read their stated ...
Will DAC always sound better going straight into a Power Amplifier?
@fai_v    If you buy a 30 year old preamp. Make sure you have it professionally reconditioned. Components like capacitors will need to be replaced, pots cleaned… of it isn’t likely to sound very good.
Improvement in Musicality for home theater system
@arro222   Typically, one’s foot is a good measure of the musical connection. This is an effect that I noticed in myself and have observed and discussed with many others over many years. Not everyone will necessary be moved the same way. Certai...
new headphones recommendation? grado gs3000e or…
I have found the Beyerdynamic T class headphones are really musical… which would be in line with your liking. They are a bit hard to drive but very intoxicatingly musical.   I own top of the line Focal, Sennheiser, Ultrasond, Denton, and Audez L...
Will DAC always sound better going straight into a Power Amplifier?
Typically not. The sound can often sound at first blush, but it looses heft and musicality. While there are folks that have components that work to skip the preamp. That is not the most common experience by a very large margin. Most folks go back...
