Amp biasing question
My Audio Research amps are self biasing.
System Advice required please
I and many other like tubed preamps. They usually have a more musical and natural sound. Maybe a used Rogue? I would normally recommend a used Audio Research, Conrad Johnson, or VAC… but even used these are more expensive than you want to spend.
Convincing your local dealer to let you try speakers at home
@kevn    +1 Also a great approach… offer to pay. This way no one looses.    The automotive analogy does not work. This is a high volume / value business and driving from the lot and returning. My Toyota dealers sells several cars a day… so ~ $2...
Help optimizing my streaming setup
I’d like to take a more moderate stance in light of my experience and those that have extensive experience modifying networks. I think achieving high quality sound can be achieved from two different directions: either through a high quality stream...
Four Hour Tube Amp Warm-Up
I am really sorry to hear your system requires such an extended warmup. For tube equipment this is simply rediculous. I have owned a PrimaLuna integrated amp for over 10 years in my home office. I may have never discovered it’s sweet spot. I seldo...
Amp biasing question
The point of sequencing is in case your preamp causes a thump when turned on. This way I f the amp is off, the thump does not go through to the speakers. If your equipment doesn’t do it, then not something to worry about. My preamp or up stream e...
Luxman 590AX II Break-In
From a number of comments it is starting to sound like a speaker / amp mismatch. The only other input I can add is I spent a couple hours with a Luxman M10-x and a set of Magico (A3 I think) and I have to say, it struck me like the OP’s comments ...
System Advice required please
Well, as I said your system is pretty well balance. Given your budget it would be easy to invest it and simple exchange one pretty good sound with a different pretty good sound. So, I had two paths.   I think to increase the sound quality I would...
DAC recommendations
OP, If you want quality sound you want to have nothing to do with Airplay… or Apple for that matter. I am a huge fan of Apple… but not for high quality audio. Qobuz is the best streaming service for high quality audio… but Tidal is a second best…...
Kimber Cable Select
I tried Kimber Cable early in my audiophile career and was never impressed with the sound. I have used Cardas, Transparent, DHLabs, WireWorld, Straight Wire, Nirvana, and Harmonics to significantly improve the sound of my systems.
System Advice required please
With just a quick look over your system it looks like it is pretty well balanced. If there is a weakness I would look at the Singxer SU6 DDC. I would recommend a good preamp first. You have a good DAC, you need a good sounding preamp… the heart of...
Is it worth upgrading a CD player?
@walkenfan2013 I really like the Meadowlarks… great speakers. You have done a great job of putting together an enjoyable system.   However, you have streaming all wrong. While in your price range vinyl is likely to be the low cost solution. St...
Luxman 590AX II Break-In
@builder3   The Luxman site says 30 wpc @ 8 ohms: (Rated output: 30W + 30W (8Ω), 60W + 60W (4Ω)) That is low power… while it doubles into 4ohms… we usually compare at 8 ohms. Since the speakers specify needin...
Why is everyone so down on MQA?
MQA was a great idea that, I think it just came too late. ten years earlier it would have been a huge hit. Bandwidth is now cheap. It does not sound terrible it sounds great… but higher resolution files are now common. Folks around here like to ge...
Why are so many people spending so much money to build “perfect” streaming system?
Because at long last digital, and in particular streaming can equal the very best sound quality available, which for decades has been vinyl. It can be done across the different quality levels of high fidelity. As an added bonus music is essentiall...
