Radio Paradise becoming repetitive?
I happened to listen to Radio Paradise Eclectic mix very frequently. They repeat sets. There are thousands of internet channels. Qobuz has over half a million high Rez albums… and well over a million albums… more music than you can listen to in y...
Want to add vinyl to my system.
@mijostyn +1   He brings up a very valid point. At this point in time without a huge collection of albums (I have 2,000 mostly in pristine condition and many of audiophile pressings) you have to put a high value on nostalgia or just putting th...
Any racks that use coasters/ wheels ?
It is about sound quality. If you want the highest sound quality out of your system then vibration control is of paramount importance. Coasters or other convience devices compromise sound quality. So folks interested in sound quality would not con...
How long does it take a decent quality speaker to "wear out"?
In general, a long time… well over 20 years… but, it depends. For instance I had a pair of ESS AMD 1Ds… which had relatively inexpensive woofers with material around the woofers exterior that wore out after about 12 years… similarly my B&W sub...
Speakers that are good with tubes
Considering they are McIntosh they would probably match best with some highly resolving speakers. I find McIntosh to be very heavy on the bass and midrange and very shy on details… the choice in speakers is really important to get the most out of ...
Cable advice
@petg60  This is particularly true if you liked the house sound of your components and therefore bought all of your components from the same manufacture.
Want to add vinyl to my system.
High end Rega’s are very highly regarded and would be a good choice. There are many other good choices, VPI, SME, Linn.   Just as a rule of thumb I would look to invest around the same amount in a phono stage as turntable so one is not holding b...
Are There Improvements that Can Be Easily and Quickly Made Without Buying More Stuff?
You have a really beautiful house. Looks like a wonderful view.   I don’t think you need to know what is wrong… or what your objective is. By trial and error you can find out what it’s capable of. As soon I have optimized all wires (which of cou...
Another cable question
OP, Thank you for your response. This is really helpful.    Wire changes are a very important part of tuning a system. But it is the last nuance. It is critical that the components get you 95% there. So, I recommend looking carefully at your viny...
After fifty years… amazing. What high end audio can be.
@mbmi  +1 Well, in my case I was really slow to get my priorities straight…
Cable advice
I would say 85% + are probably mixed… maybe. For most of the last forty years mine have usually been. Components tend to differ, so the solution for any two components will likely differ. Sometimes I acquired things at different times and I found ...
Another cable question
Hard to be positive of the outcome without trying, but some rules of thumb probably apply. How is your tonal balance? Do you think you are on the cusp of having the sound become a bit analytical? Would a cooler presentation be bad?… not being as w...
LSA VT-150
Ok, I see. The 805’s (Rev 4?) 85 db, 80 wpc tube. That should be appropriate. This should have the current to drive them. To me the headroom issue is typically more of an issue with solid state amps. They tend to be so fast that they can use peaks...
Speakers that are good with tubes
Sonus Faber Wilson B&W Most speakers. But the speaker needs to be matched to appropriately powerful amp. Not a 15 wpc amp with 82 db efficiency speakers. I doubt 300 wpc amp with 105 db speaker would be an ideal match either.
Did you ever buy too much bass?
Subwoofers have adjustable crossovers and volume. The easiest thing to do is to set them too high. If properly adjusted, no you cannot have too much, within reason. The best bass is achieved with four subwoofers carefully placed to avoid standing ...
