Are audiophile products designed to initially impress then fatigue to make you upgrade? Your comment is very cynical. Manufacturer manufacture things to sell… professional reviewers identify a fatiguing piece of equipment and would point it out… resulting in poor sales… however: Inexpensive audio equipment can be fatiguing… those bu...
Warm, Lush Laid-Back Smaller Floor Standers? Wow, you are really lucky. You could put a pair of Sonus Lilium In there and they would not overwhelm the room at all… would be real pieces of art and sound fantastic. I listened to a pair of those speakers in a 10’ by 12’ room… they sounded grea...
Is soundstage DEPTH a myth? The depth of the soundstage is determined by your equipment, venue, and recording. Assuming a good recording that can have depth… many. I don’t want to get off onto the details of this subject. My system images well (see mine under my UserID)....
Simaudio 340 i hard to beat for the $$ It looks to me you are setting up to simply swap sideways. This usually means disappointment, swapping one set of strengths and weaknesses for another. I have am very familiar with Sonus Faber Speakers and at least similar models of SIM and Luxma...
I noticed brightness/harshness more than usual from my system a couple months back. Different systems, depending on their emphasis can be really forgiving, or not. This is about the components and interconnects. iI I were to buy some different interconnects with the hope of fixing the problem you have it would be Cardas. I ow...
Home audio or pro audio? I don’t want to get pulled into this. But the goals of pro audio are very different than high end audio. In general pro audio concentrates on near field, narrow diapresion and “details forward” to hear all the nuances… allowing them to hear nuance...
What's all the fuss about late 70s and earl 80s run of the mill midfi turntables? Wow, I had a Philips 212… what a terrible sounding turn table. Also, some Thorens and cheap Garrard. I also had an AR circa 1980… with the Sure V15 (?). Wow, also terrible in comparison to any reasonable priced table and arm from the late 90’s to ...
What should my heirs do to dispose of my vinyl and CDs? My audio guy has instructions to sell my system and my vinyl collection upon my death. I already have given away most of my CDs… they are nearly worthless, or will be soon. My 2,000 pristine albums… with hundreds of audiophile versions my dealer w...
Stereo or monoblocks @unreceivedogma Yes… locating monoblocks within a foot or two (and shortening the cable) is supposed to make a big difference. A friend / dealer has done this repeatedly to good effect. Unfortunately, I have not… the interconnect / speaker ca...
Stereo or monoblocks Unfortunately, all things being equal will not include price. I am listening to a pair of ARC REF160m monoblocks… they sound slightly better… nuances only, than my ARC REF 160s… but the difference in cost is $12K. So, yeah, the monoblocks are bett...
OMG Moment It really does. Hearing, particularly with trained listening skills and it is amazing how sensitive they can be. Over the last fifty years, I was shocked to find how subtle vibration control, wires, power cords… etc, can make a difference.
Cable upgrade OP, A lot of audio equipment will flip flop in sound quality around 120 - 180 hours. Just an fyi. After 200 hours things tend to settle down and slowly improve. Some equipment leveling out at 300 - 400 hours. My Audio research equipment reached i...
Used vs. new OP, You have no way to audition?. I would think about that. These are, I think $7K speakers. It would be worth 10% of that to experience them? I am sure you can drive or fly to a city with B&W on display. Make it a weekend trip for the fun...
Why do I need a switch? You can get improved sound by fiddling with the network or buying a better streamer. I would prefer to buy a better streamer. So, my system sounds fantastic plugged in to my wall wart WiFi extender (to my Nighthawk modem / router) next to my syste...
Spending a month's salary Your question is which first… definitely speakers. @hoosierinohio …”audition…” +1 You want speakers that really appeal to your emotions. In the long run speakers typically will be between 30 - 35% of system… but no set rule. Most of us do t... |
