AES/EBU vs RCA s/pdif into dac, RCA analog out
OP, sounds like you have a lot of DACs. You might consider consolidating down to a N20 and a single DAC. I had a Berkeley Alpha Reverence 3 for a while. My Aurrender streamer only  —> DAC (Audio Research Reference CD9SE) sounds best with AES… b...
Why do speakers improve with more powerful amps?
OP, Thank you for your kind words about my system. One of the greatest benefits after the doggies is the sound space three walls concrete (front and sides)… and large, highly asymmetrical space. Bought the house knowing there was a place for my sy...
Vacuum tube amplified headphones...
Appropriately named old coot.    Nice marketing. I’ll be interested to see some reviews by real audiophiles before passing judgment. Although I am skeptical.
Quick Question About Power Cables
@spacegitarist @unreceivedogma    While it depends on the quality of your components, for highly resolving / high end audio components / systems power cords make a marked difference in system performace. As in you can hear a very important impr...
AES/EBU vs RCA s/pdif into dac, RCA analog out
Typically AES will be better as an input than coax. But it depends (like virtually everything in high end audio). What is your source? This makes a big difference. For that matter, what DAC? If you have a $10K or $20K DAC AES is likely to sound be...
Why do speakers improve with more powerful amps?
OP, There is a lot of contradictory and attitude coming from different camps in this string.   It sounds like you generally understand. A higher powered amp (in current) with the same sound quality will typically sound better than a lower power...
Final? ARC Chapter...
Hopefully, they will strengthen and widen the brand after being restricted to only high end products when paired with MacIntosh. It is a shame Trent could not afford to continue. He truly wanted to make the company and products even better than th...
Used vs new Tube mono amp? - same model
How much are you saving?    If it i could afford it. I would get the new pair. Tube cycles are in synch. Sure, would not sound different. I buy audio equipment as expensive as I can afford and keep it for at least ten years. I would prefer they w...
How Long Is Too Long?
Four months is a long time. But with a tiny business, well, he has to make choices. Hopefully if you ever get it back, then he will not charge you.    Unfortunately, you can probably get results by being the squeaky wheel.
Burn in vs perception
Tube burn in tends to be very short in comparison to the solid state components and wires. Ten to twenty hours for tubes.
Is there a ceiling limit on what you are willing to pay for an audio component?
I have never felt like a fool with audio.   I have values… things that I value and things I do not. Until I was 50 I never bought a new car… had cheap used ones, would not pay a lot for tp, I would never buy drinks at a bar, but I had a new PC ev...
What happened to all the highend stereo shops
The internet.    I am only 70, but I know where you are coming from. I live outside Portland Oregon and there are three great stores. I am really good friends with one and he will drop components by my house that he thinks I might like. No check....
Burn in vs perception
I guess it has to be somewhat person and experience related. But for me 100% burn-in. I have been an audiophile for fifty years. I am sure I wondered for the first few years as I developed my listening skills. I have broken in dozens of components...
Subs with room correction DSP?
new REL.
Can a system sound too Holographic?
One of the most incredible system I have ever heard was a Wilson Bamm or Wham or something like that / Rowland. The system was set up perfectly. Images were precise and sounded spherical suspended in the sound stage… one 12’ forward 3’ above the f...
