dumb and simple questions from a noob
Under the carpet or in the walls for speaker wires. A good sounding budget system around $3,000 - $5,000, Mid-range system from $5K to $10K, high end $10 - $20K or much higher. A system anyone would be really incredibly rewarding  $10K - $15K. I...
Best way to A/B two different streamers
I would not use a switch. Will confound the analysis.   After both are broken in I would try one day one then one day another. Do that a couple times to see if there is some really huge difference. Then I would listen to the music from one for a...
Speaker Jumper Cables Revisited
Thanks for documenting your experience. Certainly will encourage others to experiment.   I have some good quality jumpers on my Sonus Faber Amati Traditional. Unfortunately I had put them in the system when I was doing something else and did not...
Most Difference
I hate to say this… so predictable. But, it depends.    Typically my SP/DIF have exhibited pretty high sensitivity. Except for that a couple times where Ethernet cable that made a bigger difference than typical.    Sorry.
Audio Research Owners Worried?
I believe ARC’s sales were $71M last year (?). They are not bankrupt, but in receivership. With rising tube costs, inflation, interest rates, and now a downturn in the economy this creates pressure on a new owner who likely had to use debt to help...
Audio Research Dog
@campoly   Thank you for you comments on my non-audio photography. I hadn’t realized you can easily navigate to my Flickr albums… but great for anyone wishing to see my photos. One of my passions. I have over 120,000 photos from my travels aro...
Audio Research Owners Worried?
I own all Audio Research Reference gear. I am not worried in the least. If I was thinking about buying another piece of ARC gear I would buy it immediately. I have never had a failure in owning one or more components over 40 years.
Audio Research filing for bankruptcy?
I own all Audio Research equipment. I am very disappointed that Trent has not been successful in managing the company. He has certainly been a great customer advocate. I have no doubt that the company will survive. Their products are second to non...
Audio Research Dog
@facten  Thank you, I saw it.    I am optimistic that they will pull through. A couple years ago the company was purchased by an audio Sales VP, Trevor I believe… he was actively strengthening the business and reputation. I suspect he did not ha...
Looking for a great set of Wired Headphones
Focal are really good and easy to drive. What headphone amp and source do you have. Like all things audio you need matching components to get the most out of it.   if you are actually just using an iPhone or something like that then look at Ultr...
How do you assess a DAC?
If you are looking for good sound quality then you want a separate DAC and streamer. Both of similar quality. Typically separates sound a lot better and set you up to upgrade stepwise in the future. Yes, I would sell your DAC. If you want a signi...
Can a better power cable make a difference if NOT plugged directly into an outlet?
@gladmo +1 great post. I agree. Also, I think you can find much better cords than you are using. I only tried one of the Pangea but it was not very effective, so I never tried more. Certainly one can try experimenting with material for isolat...
Moving to a new home and need set up advice
OP, Yes, this is always the dilemma. My partner and I use the home theater together in the living room and over the last 25 years upgraded it to sound great. But my passion has been 2 channel audio, so that is where my effort has gone. You could...
Moving to a new home and need set up advice
Do you have an extra room? I would rather have my own small space to optimize rather than a highly compromised open common area.
Puritan Ultimate Power Cable
OP,   Did you get to the point of “Creating a Virtual System”? This is where you put in your photos and ID your components. It is simple if you can get there.
