Resolving CD Transports Crowd Sourcing
OP,   Thanks for your impressions. I use my Ref CD as a DAC 99% of the time streaming with my Aurrender. The higher resolution of much of the material from Qubuz sounds better and the CD is there as a backup in case the network goes down.

Warm vs Revealing—the struggle for balance
OP, ‘Thank you for your response.    On the subject of the sound of music. I grew up with cheap systems of the 70’s and live concerts… The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Moody Blues…etc. in really good venues and towers of amplifiers and speakers. I a...

I would think the individual vertical strings of the Sonus Faber would be much less interesting to cats. They also sound fantastic.

Like all components you must consider the quality of the component. The better the component, the more important the interconnect. I have had streamers at the$1K, 3K, 5K, 10K, and now my streamer is $22K. In general the better the component the m...
Help and opinions needed on pre-amp situation
OP, True audiophile companies are like this. The people in them are passionate about what they do, and above all else want folks to achieve and enjoy high end audio. For those of us that have been pursing high end audio for a long time have conne...

For a little perspective, I owned a Sim Moon 760D CD / DAC with the Sim Moon 820 power supply ($18K together) for a number of years. My dealer brought over an Audio Research REF CD9SE without me asking. Holy cow, it is sooo much more natural and m...

OP, I completely understand. I struggled with that the first couple decades or more of my pursuing the high end. Part of the issue was I was dealing with solid state equipment in the 70’s - 90’s. I could write many pages on the subject. Today, y...

@glenn747 Off and on throughout my time (50 years) at this pursuit I have tried “Giant Killers” and without exception they proved not to be. Either immediately, or within a short time I would start hearing their shortcomings, after that, I could...

@oldracer  +1   Yes, working with a dealer can really help. For most of my time at this pursuit I have at least worked closely with a dealer. Often, they would not carry all the brands I was interested in. But, they can be invaluable. The esse...

@r_f_sayles    +1 I try and be helpful as possible and if I just can’t go along with the premises of the question, I’ll suggest something different.

@gowanus    +1 Much of my equipment was purchased used in the first couple decades of me pursuing the high end. Great way to leverage your funds.

@yoyoyaya    Very true. Companies can loose there way… Nakamichi is a great example. Thst is why research is such an important part of the pursuit.

@tony1954 ”…Thanks for the advise to buy expensive, high quality equipment to get better sound.” Well I didn’t exactly say that, there are very expensive non-mainstream components. But in general, that is true.   It may sound obvious… but if yo...

@pdreher  Also a reasonable strategy. I guess I should have put in that my objective has always been to assemble the highest performing system possible over time. You are correct, for some folks that is not the objective.
