Upgrading my streaming/digital system- what would make the most sense?
If I understand your setup. I would start with an upgrade to your DAC. I have lived with a Sim Moon 760? For many years… it lacked natural / musical sound. So I would definitely start there. Then you want a good streamer… of equal cost to the DAC…...

@b_lee   Wow, I am really sorry to hear the experiences you have had with dealers. That is horrible. Much of my interactions with dealers has been extended and great. One for ten years and two for twenty years. Each were generous with their ti...

@tony1954    Well, I completely get it and now retired, I really love my system… so, probably a good thing.
Need advice for bi-amping or tri-amping Sonus Faber Aida speakers
Very nice system, speakers. This is a very exciting question. Audio Research with Sonus Faber is magical! It would be great to see your system as it is today. Makes it much easier to make relevant comments. There is a place under virtual systems ...

@tony1954 “…I do know it is low on the totem pole of audio tweaks, but my anal personality can't just forget about it.”   Ahh, the sign of a true audiophile. 😊
How do you add color?
@frogman   +1 I think you put your finger on it. I looked at this for a while and kept thinking… but…. but.   Most good high fi companies try to make their products sound like the real thing. I suspect those that use simple electronic measurem...
Amplifier Pairing with Coherent 15s
@mmcgill829    Yes, being an audio gear reviewer or working in a high end store would be a real advantage.

@mdalton Thank you for your comments.   I really do not think we disagree. I am definitely not saying there is one path. I am pointing out that there is a path, that while still requiring lots of work, has a much higher probability of long ter...
DAC DIRECT IN TO AMPLIFIER OR TO PREAMPLIFIER
@carlsbad2 “…My summary of this thread would be that there are 2 camps, one likes adding a preamp, and one doesn’t..” I get a different take all together. It seems there is consensus that most of the time a real preamp is required, it can be buil...
DAC DIRECT IN TO AMPLIFIER OR TO PREAMPLIFIER
@blisshifi “…T+A SDV 3100 HV (which in all fairness has a true preamp stage built in)…”   That is really interesting. Perhaps what that means over time as digital becomes more dominant… DACs will include preamp stages… and really ultra high will...

@tony1954 +1 Unfortunately, same with me. I get the speaker cables out and on elevators… and generally I can separate the interconnect to my amp in front. But the audio racks have a rats nest. I am sure it is in that category of tiny differenc...

@dentdog    Yes, absolutely. Piecing together a fantastic system is all about “tne right stuff”, and for most of us, the right stuff is typically out of reach… until… suddenly it is… a special discount, a used component, a raise.

@mrdecibel    Thank you for your kind words about my system. Over time my tastes have definitely moved towards musical. This being the most musical system I have ever owned… I never listen to my system… it is always the music… and as I probably ...

@mrdecibel I agree that audiophile has no connotation on whether the person in question prizes listening to music or their system, or somewhere in between. Absolutely the high end audio cater to their clients. It is a continuum from nearly entir...
Corner base trap- to the ceiling?
I have had bass traps for more than twenty five years. They come in two 3’ sections on a stand. I have always seen them like this. They have two sides (not easily detectable on the outside. Half the cylinder has reflective material under the fabri...
