To Pre or not to Pre? Here is my take
This is why 99% of everything out there uses coupling caps. In tube equipment yes, but try to tell designers like Dan Agostino, John Curl, Jeff Rowland etc etc. that. They are firmly in the direct coupled camp, from go to whoa. I've seen many prob...
To Pre or not to Pre? Here is my take
The issue is that the output impedance can vary with frequencyYes of course it can, especially if capacitor coupled. (best cap is no cap)This is why my system is direct coupled from dac convertor chips output pins all the way to the speakers, with...
To Pre or not to Pre? Here is my take
The source impedance is not always linear with frequency- quite often it is considerably higher at 20Hz than it is at 1000 Hz (look up the measurements on various CD playersThis is also just as true with just as many preamps outputs, not just sour...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
Was it a mechanical connection problem ? This is more the case and should have been first in line for consideration.Even SR states their fuses are directional. Please point to the link that states this.Cheers George
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
whitestixI put a SR Red fuse into my preamp yesterday and it blew immediately.  I put the Radio Shack fuse back in the preamp and the preamp powers up fine.  That was a $50 "butt dart".  They can't even get the amperage rating right. Others have b...
Soekris ApS dac1101 another discrete R2R Multibit dac.
If Aussie's buy it, there's a difference in shipping between getting it from Europe which is $50usd cheaper than the US.Cheers George

but has anyone asked why not ALL manufacturers use these fuses in their components if they make their units sound better? If it were me, I would definitely signed a volume purchase contract with SR just to get some advantage over my competition. S...

Maybe it's an elaborate scheme on their part to get me to  destroy my equipment so they can sell me more? ;)More like pandering to the voodooist to keep them on side so they buy more stuff off them. (keep it in the family so to speak)Cheers George
Pre volume control - hardly moves but volume rises a lot
is that normal?Yes, that means the integrated pre section has been cut out.You have too much system gain. With the sources output, other preamp gain in conjunction with the gain of the poweramp section, and the efficiency of the speakers.Look at t...

+1 gs5556 good pickup.Yes the switch should be up to separate, in case you missed it. If not you have too much gain get the Schiit.http://www.radiomuseum.org/images/radio/pioneer_corporation/stereo_amplifier_sa_700_468494.jpg http://www.njuskalo.h...

Too much system gain is what you have, you could lower it quite easily by taking the sc-700 pre out of the equation and substituting it for this $49 passive pre, which you can return if you don't like it.http://schiit.com/products/sys Cheers George
