LaScalla "horn" sound compared to "maggie" sound
Nice post, MrD.
Why does bi-amping speakers sound better?
I think current bi-amp configuration leans more toward horizontal than vertical. That is using one amp per channel (monoblocks), instead of splitting the upper and lower frequencies. As randy said, it allows an amp to drive less of a load-which wou...
Looking for speaker ideas.
I really need to listen to Tekton's. Anybody in Long IslandNYC area care to let me audition them?Bob
RCA connectors-how to tighten them up.
You're right. I give that advice to others. I should have taken it myself.
RCA connectors-how to tighten them up.
Thanks Cleeds, I am probably mangling the terminology. As far as cheap connectors, they are AQ sky pigtails on my Vandy crossover. I have tried them on different equipment, but they just seem loose compared to my other cables. I think they were use...
LaScalla "horn" sound compared to "maggie" sound
I haven't heard those LaScalla's since college. They were in a huge room record store. Because of that, I never considered buying them because I thought they needed space to open up.Your Maggies are great speakers, I am considering buying a pair-d...
Adcom GFA-5802 Stereo Power Amplifier to drive Andra speakers! Is it a good choice
Yup, my 555 is still going strong and compares well with even McCormack amps.
Bi-wires links for speakers ?
Personally I DO NOT believe that bi-wiring can make any difference if  someone really wants to improve the sound he should bi-amplifying  If you want a definitive answer, why don't you contact ProAc? They built the damned thing.
Bi-wires links for speakers ?
When someone descibes me as:  a dealer, though he doesn't like to disclose that informationthen I have to say some opinions are incorrect. This mostly due to having incorrect 'facts'.Though I believe the new rationale is 'alternative facts'.B
Original Vandersteen Model 3
Obviously true, but your original post was wondering if the 3's would be a good speaker for $400. And the answer was 'yes'.If you want better, then it will cost you.Your 1.7's are pretty new, so if you want to compare apples to apples, then gettin...
Bi-wires links for speakers ?
@jmcgrogan2 Most people cannot afford own $8K worth of speaker cable. And, none that do should admit it. The question, in the real world, where budget comes into play, is what sounds better? Two lesser cables, or one superior cable with jumper?...
Bi-wires links for speakers ?
@jmcgrogan2 : FWIW, gdnrbob is a dealer, though he doesn't like to disclose that information, as it may show his bias. So obviously he will think that if you bi-wire you will spend twice as much on cables as you were planning to.I don't know wh...
Bi-wires links for speakers ?
I have always felt that if the manufacturer went to the trouble of offering biwired terminals, you should get biwired cables-After all, you spent over $2.5K on the speakers. The Tellurium jumpers should be a modest upgrade, should you really not wi...
Looking for speaker ideas.
Onwatershipdown, I own the Unions and find them quite nice for the price. I pair them with my Vandy 2w subs, so I get the low frequencies to boot. Though I would disagree with your assessment of the Vanatoo's. Of course, none of the Vandie's want ...
Motherboard SDIF Output Or Soundcard
Yes, Joe, they are an interesting company. Though I don't understand their rationale for not providing information regarding the sound qualities of their different models. After all, if they are doing something between models there must be a reaso...
