How to find local audiophiles
I once connected with an audiophile and was kindly invited to his home to hear his system. All very expensive gear but he was playing at such a low level there were no dynamics or bass. Just old vinyl records. Made no sense and it wasn't good list...
Cheap crimp connection vs. Solder
Strength isn't required in a home audio speaker. (car audio needs crimps for strength)  Straightest, non-restrictive path of least resistance is the goal.  In a proper soldered direct connection it does replace/remove the crimp. That's the point ...
Cheap crimp connection vs. Solder
Crimp should be a pressure fit copper with straight strands of wire pressed against the metal crimp. No twisting of wire and no solder added. By adding solder it worsened the connection by adding yet another layer. Electric goes from wire, through...
Is this a new trend?
I think the speaker on a stand is a more appealing, sleeker look. Most important is it allows for better subwoofer performance rather than having the woofers connected in the same box.   The term "bookshelf" speaker isn't really a fitting term fo...
How remove odor from interconnect?
Old Spice deodorant. Gets rid of the stank.
??? SVS "Ultra Evolution Elevation" OR Elac "BS243.4 Carina" Speakers ???
Is this used as a main listening speaker? That SVS speaker shown is a rear surround and is NOT a good choice. This is their bookshelf speaker (highly recommended)
Don’t buy used McCormack DNA 1990s amps
@soix   I saw this quote from Steve...    the only DNA amp we've had trouble with is the DNA-1, and ONLY the DNA-1. This is because of age-related problems with the main circuit board, and ONLY that board.

Don’t buy used McCormack DNA 1990s amps
A very helpful thread!! As a 30 year owner of a DNA 0.5 with deluxe upgrade, it's good to hear from Steve Mc, that the board problem exists only in the 1.0. I am contemplating re-capping. The parts are really not expensive so all that is require...
How many times can u visit a hifi store before it annoys the store if u plan on a purchase
There are plenty of people that have no intention of buying and these people don't care how much of your time they consume.  "Knob twisters" "Tire kickers" "Gear gawkers" "Lookie-Loos" Good sales people know who you are and see you coming. Do...
The Insane World of High End Audio! Is it All a Scam?
WAF... the dog that does bark! Acoustic treatments are avoided because of room aesthetics. A hard wood floor with no carpet is the worst offense IMO. People who paid for wood floor will NEVER put carpet on it. It will remain acoustically untreata...
The Insane World of High End Audio! Is it All a Scam?
Generally, people are flawed in their thinking that if it costs more it must be better. This bias lives in the imagination of humans and makes it easy for scammers. Years ago Starbucks coffee was doing poorly. They kept lowering the price to lure...
The "young people' music thread - Artists younger than 40 years old
@oddiofyl   Marcus reminds me of the enormous talent of Teddy Swims or some Chris Stapleton.
