Dayton Audio SA 1000 subwoofer amp - repair Good job!! We have become such a throw away society. Why bother fixing it..."just get a new one" is so much easier. Consumerism and planned obsolescence are part of the design. So many devices can easily be repaired but get conveniently dumped i...
What front end piece should I upgrade? It appears you try "low end equalization" with added distortion. Why? Are you lacking bass? It sounds like you could eliminate the use of the EQ and add a subwoofer to fill in the richness of low end. It appears to sound just fine otherwise.
Listening to what we Like Instead of what we have to I find loads of great new musicians on Youtube. I find it's far better than the discovery algorithm on Qobuz. When I find something I like, I can go put it on my favorites list to play at higher resolution on Qobuz. BTW... the music I find on You...
Those magical days when the HVAC is off I see some of Paul McGowen listening rooms use Mini-split AC units. They are extremely quiet.
Speakers on top of subwoofer @lewl28 Too low can easily be raised higher by the simple use of some speaker stands. I cut mine to an exact height. What crossover do you set you subs? A thought to ponder... when I move subwoofers around a room I could always, easily detect ...
Speakers on top of subwoofer @soix vibrations negatively affect sound, so adding significantly more vibrations into the speaker is just never a good idea, period. Agreed, but that's NOT what I'm suggesting. I want to eliminate all vibration going to the speaker and it's ...
Speakers on top of subwoofer @soix What exactly is the "design change' allowing the Wilsons to have the speaker on top of the sub cabinet? Maybe as @steakster points out... Wilson uses The new V-Material, which is used where two parts of the cabinet come together, "behaves...
Those magical days when the HVAC is off You could run your system from a simple 'plug in' battery back-up. Companies, like Ecoflow, will bypass your electrical grid completely. They have batteries to power everything including your whole house. You just need a small one for your stere...
Speakers on top of subwoofer @ghdprentice Don't do this? Wilson is doing it wrong? BTW...these go down to 20 HZ. B&W, TAD and many others do the same split configuration.
Speakers on top of subwoofer This is not a problem. Simply use a vibration isolation pad/feet between the speakers and the subwoofer. Think for a minute how many expensive large floor standing speakers have large, vibrating bass drivers in them. Too many to count AND they h...
Audirvana streaming I'm using Audirvana and Qobuz combo. Happens occasionally. Just do a re-boot of Audirvana program and it usually fixes it. Seems to be a software glitch?
The Psychology Of Collecting "Freud suggested collecting stems from toilet training." During covid or any storm/hurricane the first thing that was cleared off the shelves was toilet paper. People collected/hoarded far more than they needed and creating unnecessary scarcity. ...
Upgrading to a stand alone DAC @helomech +1 Many of these DACs have very inexpensive IC chips costing less then $1. Cost restraint prevents them from using discreet op/amps. An inexpensive "Chi-Fi" DAC can be had for as little as $300 with an interchangeable op/amp chip opt...
Have you noticed as your system improves? I agree with Paul McGowen who says music should be played appropriately loud. There's a restriction of resolution when the volume knob is too low. Low volume acts like stepping on the brake pedal. It's reasonable to play acoustic music at a natu...
