Tube preamplifier lifespan
@tablejockey, Paul McGowan told you that a tubed component only lasts 20 years?
Phono Stage - The great analog tragedy
I’m going to add to the chorus: there were MANY great phonostages in the 1990s. That was when designed separated the linestage from the phonostage. There was Tom Evan’s Groove phonostage, Audio Research has had phonostages since the early 90s, Mar...
How much do I need to spend to make vinyl sound better than digital?
Did you mention you have a phonostage? I didn’t see any mention of one. So if you’re using a phonostage that’s internally contained within the turntable, then that could easily be why your digital setup sounds better. I find that most people, list...
Sequerra MET 11 ?????
I had a pair of the Met 7s. I got them as a second pair of speakers to have besides WATTS. I was quite astonished. They had superior ambience retrieval to the original Series 1 WATTS, which were a bit closed in at the top. Exceptional speakers. I...
Shunyata X series power cords
@audphile1 Thanks for that information. I expected there would still be a reasonably extended burn-in time. From what you wrote, it sounds like burn-in will still take a while. Just not 400 hours any more. Cool. Good to know!
Shunyata X series power cords
@audphile1  That is an interesting observation about the Alpha line. I’ve had every generation Shunyata’s put out, so the progression is clear. However, when they introduced the Alpha ZiTron - and I already had the Cobra - I was expecting someth...
Shunyata X series power cords
I will be evaluating a pair of the Alpha X interconnects shortly. Given that I have lived with Nordost Tyr 2 interconnects for several years, this will be an interesting experience. The system will be entirely composed of Shunyata cables: power, s...
Integrated that blew you away
VAC Renaissance 70/70. ASR Emitter II.   And Theliste! A Jadis DA88. Whoaaaa, man! I had a Jadis Defy 7. back in 1991. It is VERY hard to beat a Jadis for sounding "alive."
Vinyl sounds better (shots fired)
@billpete  I agree. I find that, even when it was recorded poorly, it also had fewer microphones and all the things they do in the engineering that reduces the "aliveness" of  music nowadays, that it sounds more like there are real people playing...
For Those Who Are Unaware of The Cable Company
+ 1 @nutty  Maybe there was a mixup in communication. I am a VERY direct guy, and if someone behaves poorly towards me, especially in retail, since I owned a retail business, I let them  know that  if they worked for me and they behaved this way...
Shunyata interconnect cables experience
This thread is four years old. I am only appending a footnote. If anyone wants to try out cables, try The Cable Company. They have a Lending Library of cables, and the loan them out for 2-3 weeks. I pay 5% of the retail cost (usually around $60 f...
dCS Bartok DAC - Interesting Video Review
Was this whole review conducted using headphones?
For Those Who Are Unaware of The Cable Company
The Cable Company’s prices are what the MSRP is. What Shunyata costs at The Cable Company, it also costs at Music Direct. I use the Cable Company often. Bought Shunyata’s Theta power cable last year, and quite a few other products from them over ...
Vinyl playback - lack of bass?
I have never experienced a lack of bass in my system. I assume the thought is that it’s the analog setup, but that would not automatically be the case simply due to it being vinyl.  I had the Versa Dynamics 2.3 turntable in my system in the ’80s a...
The Sacred Ritual of Vinyl: A Return to Mindful Listening
People who are very young will not remember a time - mostly the '60s, when album covers were works of art. Sticky Fingers - The Rolling Stones. A ZIPPER on the album cover! Naturally, people were shocked! SHOCKED, I tell you!!! Buying an album b...
