Tubes? Transistors? Which are better? Hi Trelja; I appreciate and understand your advice and really would like to try different tube amps, but as I live out in the boondocks, trying different equipment in my system can be an expensive hassle. And then too, I really do like S. McCormac...
Tubes? Transistors? Which are better? Hi Will; First, I really enjoyed my time with the SF Power 2, and I now know that I could be happy with a good tube amp long term. The mid-range was great, and for a tube amp the bass was good, but after 3 wks. when I changed back to the DNA2, the...
The best and worst Audiogon poster's Good "take" David-- I should have thought of that as I lived in Mormon country for awhile:>). Cheers and Happy New Year.
Is it safe to run cheap wires? PI; I think you're right as SMC uses an expensive HQ Jensen transformer in the conversion process, and they also match the amps as closely as possible. According to Steve M. the matching is important (but not essential). Craig
CD recorder Marantz or Pioneer Donjf; nice of you to resurrect this thread and tell us the directon you took. Enjoy. Craig
Creedence Clearwater Revival CDs Kkirkpa; I too like John Fogerty's recent releases, although the first one was recorded a bit "hot"-- was it "Centerfield?-- don't remember now. I had a music instructor (guitar) recently whose initials are CCR. I thought that was great, and I cal...
Creedence Clearwater Revival CDs CFB; I don't own a TT, but recently auditioned an inexpensive MMF-5. I had an original pressing of CCR Chronicle Vol. 1 in very good shape, and compared the song "Green River" to the Gold CD, and I must admit that the vinyl was better-- more natur...
The best and worst Audiogon poster's .........would marrying twin amps be some kind of bigamy?
The best and worst Audiogon poster's John & Carl; I am really glad to see you guys last couple of posts-- a good start for 2001. They show class on both your parts IMO. Carl, thanks for the new year salutations and same to you. And I mean that sincerely and hope we can all mainta...
Is it safe to run cheap wires? Perfectimage; Thanks for answering the one amp versus two amp question. Steve McCormack suggested that I could do it the way you are, but I'm seriously considering sending them to SMC for mono-bloc conversion and matching as well as upgrading work...
Is it safe to run cheap wires? Perfectimage; I know that it's safe to run cheap speaker cables, eg even though you have very powerful amps, it's likely that you're only using a few watts at any given time. I would like to ask you about your experience with your super high power...
What CD is your System Reference My system sounds good with a wide variety of music, but if I want to show off the soundstaging, I use Lucinda Williams HDCD recording of "Car Wheels On a Gravel Road". BTW, we recently had a thread that covered this topic, you might look for it. C...
Best power cord for McCormack DNA-2 I've used Syn. Res. Master Coupler for about 6 months now with excellent results on my DNA-2DX. Of course you know that it takes a 20 amp plug on the amp end. I had to special order the SR-MC, and before I did, I had a chance to audtion the Shunya...
Creedence Clearwater Revival CDs My original 8 CCR CDs are all on the Fantasy Label and are mid to late 80's issues. I've not heard the DCC issues, but the "gold" CD is a bit smoother than the originals, but otherwise not much different. I thought the Gold CDs were DCC issues, bu...
Creedence Clearwater Revival CDs As a big CCR fan, I already had all of their 8 original CDs, plus the 2 Vol. GH sets in both aluminum and gold. I compared the originals to the new set and initially could not hear much difference, but it did seem that the originals were thinner w... |
