SS vs Tube: What do you hear? I really like the SF Line 2 pre-amp (tubed) with my big McCormack DNA-2DX (SS) amp. It impresses me as the best of both worlds (OK, an excellent compromise). While it may be true that SS manufacturers try to emulate the "tube" sound, I believe thi...
Floor Standing "Warm" Speaker Hi Chuck; you don't say what your budget is, but the Vandersteen 2Cesigs are $1500. new, have bass to about 30 HZ, and a sensitivity of about 88. For $3500. the Vandersteen 3Asig. has bass to about 26 HZ, and a sensitivity also of about 88. Both o...
Wha'choo lookin' at? Kthomas; that has got to be a strange experience!!! Craig
Vandersteen 3A vs. ProAc3.8 Rayhall; You are right, I would listen before purchase-- at least in the case of the Vand. 5. In fact I've bought all my Vand. speakers (3 pr.) from my nearest HIFI shop-- about 150 miles. And they do have the 5s as demos. Looks like I'll also hav...
Vandersteen 3A sigs amp advice please Kevziek; glad to hear that you're enjoying your McCormack amp. I haven't heard it, but would like too. Rayhall, to put the McCormack DNA-2DX into perspective versus some of the excellent Pass Alephs, the 2DX retailed for $5K, and is a true dual-mo...
Vandersteen 3A vs. ProAc3.8 Good thread Yangsp. Rayhall, a couple of excellent posts above as I've been considering this very question myself, and as you probably know I have 3Asigs. I like the 3As a lot, but was wondering if I could achieve a worthwhile upgrade by going to ...
Who is Most Beautiful female singer ever Mfb33; nice to see Karen Carpenter remembered. I loved her song "Crescent Noon".
Opinions on Dunlavy Aletha Speaker Piezo; Thanks for the up-date, it seems from yours-- and others experience, that the Alethas really do beg to be placed on the long wall. I'm a big blues/rock fan too, and I wouldn't want to shortchange the speaker design by squeezing them into cr...
Vandersteen 3A sigs amp advice please Rayhall; I appreciate hearing of your experience and all your above posts re: DNA amps and 3A speakers. John_1 is also a big fan of the Alephs with the 3As, but I have to note that he liked the DNA1 Rev.A Gold even better with his 3As than the Ale...
Are you Guys Rich or What!? Not rich either! Who said "....obsessions make good servants but poor masters"? I'm a consenting adult too and agree with Plsl and Mikeam above. No need for guilt trips here. Cheers. Craig
Audiogon "RECORDINGS TO DIE FOR" list Jadem6; nice thread, but I seldom buy "audiophile" CDs, yet what I like sounds good on my system. No particular order: (1) Cowboy Junkies "Waltz Across America" (2) CCR "Bayou Country"; new remaster w/JVC 20bit K2 system (3) Enigma "Cross of Chang...
You got to show me something more! Coltrane1; I assume you meant to tell us that your thread posting above is "in your (humble?) opinion? I do like certain jazz ballads, and buy some. But I don't need someome telling me what I should, or should not do, with my money, stereo equipme...
Footers/Shelf Material I think Brulee's response to Caterham1 pretty well sums up my experiences messing around with vibration control too. It's fun to try different things though-- just don't know if I've made any progress.
Who is Most Beautiful female singer ever If we MUST get into purely musical beauty, I'd have to also nominate Shirley Horn-- a spectacular voice. Never have seen a good picture of her though-- sometimes wonder why-- not important though.
Footers/Shelf Material ......should have mentioned that transport is Levinson 37, and DAC Levinson 360S-- strange looking feet. I'll have to contact them re: the foot design. I'm guessing that you are familiar with Levinsons feet-- not Marks', but the components. |
