Can interconnect cables improve sound stage height, width, and depth?
The correct answer is that it all depends. The effect of cabling choice is system-dependant. At the risk of poking the bear, I have a theory that the naysayers who claim "wire is wire" or "assuming capacitance and resistance are within a certain r...
Electrical - Romex Wiring and Other Recommended Enhancements
I'm being told by someone I trust that 15A breakers are far more advisable to avoid the chance of frying wire and house fires. I'm no EE but think that it is true that just because an amp or preamp has a 20A IEC receptacle does not mean you need t...
Help: Devore O/96 Integrated Amp + DAC suggestion
Lemme ax yu sumtin'. How many hours do you have on the O/96's? While it is fairly obvious that you would benefit from a good tube amp with at least 30 watts, be aware that placement and break-in are vital with the O series, and we're talking 600 h...
Contemplating DEVORE SPEAKERS (and others)....LONG audition report of many speakers
The Devores are an excellent speaker, but if you really want to hear what they do, use a tube amplifier. They are a great load for tube amps and they don't need a lot of power- I recommend 30-60 watts as a minimum in most average rooms. I do. ...
Contemplating DEVORE SPEAKERS (and others)....LONG audition report of many speakers
I agree that the O/96's are the better looking speaker. My dealer, Don Better, told me that the O/96 outsells the O/93 by a large margin and yet he personally felt that the O/93 was the better speaker. Perhaps there was an element of salesmanship ...
Contemplating DEVORE SPEAKERS (and others)....LONG audition report of many speakers
Prof, looking through your post history, it seems that you had zeroed in on the JA Perspectives almost a year ago. Why are you posting this now? Or put differently, why did you not pull the trigger on the Perspectives? Did you just discover DeVore...
Audio-Technica ART 7
s it really true that 2juki products are "gray market"? What does that mean, in this context? The phrase arose back in the 80s, when certain foreign cars could not be imported into the US, because they did not meet our then new requirements for e...
Compare Large Advent?
IMHO the newer large Advent was and remains a great speaker. I had the surrounds of mine replaced by John of VanL Speakerworks in Chicago. He upgraded my crossovers and internal wiring too. They are in my basement and I play rock while I work out ...
How much do I need to spend to get a preamp that sounds better than no preamp?
It's the riddle for which there is no answer, the corollary to "not all things that can be measured count and not all things that count can be measured". System dependent, but in many cases, a great preamp creates the "jump factor" that turns a bo...
SME Tonearms of Canada - Alfred and Company that sell new and refurbish SME
Have you done a search? This topic has been posted and discussed before. Short answer; he does good work but on my vintage SME 3009 arm, when the problem with the cue lever could not be resolved, he stopped returning my messages and calls. He also...
Phono Preamps with "balls" ?
04-04-2018 9:47pm... well not to hijack the thread, but now you've got me interested in the Violectrics @czarivey and @fsonicsmith. I checked out their website. The PPA 600 ticks off a lot of boxes for me. Anyone know how it compares to the PP1?...
Phono Preamps with "balls" ?
I've yet to hear a CD that plays better bass than my phono section...I like to run balanced, as all phono cartridges are balanced sources, and that can reduce or eliminate the 'sound' that the tone arm cable might otherwise impart. I wish I cou...
Phono Preamps with "balls" ?
I own a Simaudio LP5.3, a Violectric PP1 (can't believe someone else mentioned it-I thought I was the only one on the planet to own one), and a Manley Steelhead. By and large, I think that you can pretty much tell which phono stages are going to h...

PS Audio Power Plants
Hmmm (pun), which Isotek did you try? I have no discernable transformer hum but I am nevertheless intrigued by the Isotek Syncro and have one coming in two days to go along with an Isotek Aquarius. I do have some very slight hum through my speaker...
