Arcam A-80 thoughts
I've heard a Rega P3/A80 combo on Wharfedale Evo 30s and ProAc Ref 8s, and I was pretty impressed both times. It will be a significant step up over your HK. The cables were VanDenHul D102s and Kimber Heros. The Heros were more open, the D102s smoo...
AVP-S How good on 2 chanel and movies?
Yes, I did notice an improvement in sound over the stock power cord when I switched it out. I used a Kimber PK14. It runs around $150. There was a noticeable improvement in the bass. And the overrall sound just seemed to have more oomph. I've neve...
AVP-S How good on 2 chanel and movies?
The AVP-S is good for movies and fairly good for music. It doesn't draw out subtle sounds to the final degree. But it has a rich, refined sound. The AVP2 is definitely a step up for music. Better defined bass, better separation and space between t...
What's the best CD and/or multiplayer today
Linn Unidisk 1.1 A true universal player. Comes in at $11K. Plays CDs, SACD, DVD-A, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD +RW. It's CD playback is very close to the $20K CD12. Best CD player I've ever head outside of the CD12. Much less being able to pl...
Eva Cassidy newbee
Welcome aboard! I was blown away the 1st time my girlfriend played Songbird for me too. Her best CD is Live at Blues Alley IMO. On that one she's accompanied by some good musicians. It has a more bluesy, soul theme. She also plays guitar on at lea...
Arcam Solo Any thoughts
I think the Solo is a fantastic product. Great sound and incredible looks. The money you save on interconnects just adds to the value. I've heard it with little Wharfedale Diamond 8 series, $200 speakers, great sound for the price. If you could sp...
best speakers for Ayre amps ?
I think ProAc speakers are a great match for Ayre amps. But then again, I've never listened to an Ayre on any system and been disappointed. :)
Anyone have or listen to a Rega P5 yet?
I've listened to a P5 against a P25, both using a super Elys cartridge. (Not the same one) The P5 is 10-15% better I'd say. Deeper, fuller bass was the main difference, with a little more air and better separation of instruments. Everything just s...
Theta Dreadnaught 1 vs Classe CAV-180
The Rotel 1095 is a good amp. I've listened to it against a Parasound 2205A, and chose the Parasound because it had a smoother overrall sound that I preferred. Where the Rotel had more power, more bass, and was a little more dynamic. But the Dread...
Wall mounted Maggies...any experience ?
Depending upon your controller\receiver, the Maggies wall mounted can blend with a box center. If you have a processor where you can set the crossover in 10 Hz increments, that is best. They won't play anything below 100 Hz. Using most receivers, ...
Step up from $2000 rec. to dedicated pre-pro?
I use my Arcam as a pre for the 2 mains, (using an Ayre V-3X to power them) and the receiver to power the center and surround channels. I've heard it against the Rotel 1066 and the $1500 NAD processor, used as a pre, and slightly preferred the Arc...
Step up from $2000 rec. to dedicated pre-pro?
You're exactly right, music is much more difficult to get sounding good than HT. For a receiver, I'd recommend Arcam. I've heard the $1500-$3500 Pioneer, Rotel, Integra, Denon, Sony, Yamaha, NAD and B&K receivers. The Rotel, B&K & NAD ...
Thiel 2.3 vs 2.4
I agree with Cinematic_systems on this one. There is a noticeable dip in the mid-range on the 2.3s. Even the salesperson came in near the end of my listening session, asked to put in Stevie Ray Vaughn "Tin Pan Alley" listened for a couple minutes ...
Theta Dreadnaught 1 vs Classe CAV-180
I would still strongly recommend the Dread. The Parasound Halo is a powerhouse, but not nearly as musical to my ears. Your speakers will play loud, but the Dread will more than hold it's own in that dept too. I've just never heard each individual ...
Shortlist of Speaker Cables/ICs: advice/opinions
Personally, I don't think the price difference between the Monocle X and XL is justified. I've heard them on a 5K pair of ProAcs with an all Ayre front-end. (An amazing combo BTW) You get a little more bass and fuller sound with the XL, but little...
