Arcam, Musical Fidelity questions...
I agree with your premise, the CD23 is the best value of the bunch. It's a tough call between which sounds better, the 23 or 33. I preferred the 23 by a small margin, due to its smoothness. The 33 is a little more forward, which some of my friends...
where do i go from here?
Bryon, 1st to answer your question, if you're using the pre outs from the Denon to the CJ amp, yes it's tinting the music. You can still use the CJ to drive your Paradigm fronts, and use the Arcam for the center\surrounds if you want surround soun...
where do i go from here?
I don't know what cables you're using and how much you're willing to pay, but I'd start with a new processor. The Arcam AVR100 stomps the Denon, IMO. You could get one for around $500 used. If you want Pro Logic II, get the AVR200 for around $750....
Linn Unidisk vs Meridian G91/98 vs Marantz DV9500
It mainly depends on what you're looking for and how much you're willing to spend. Will your system mainly be used for music or movies? Do you need SACD and DVD-A playback as well? Are you running single-ended or balanced? I agree with the above p...
Budget Amp for Avalon Eidolon
You have really good speakers currently, and for 10K I'd look at replacing your ARC front end with Ayre before going up to the Eidolons. Of the amps you've listed, the Ayre V-1 is far and away the most musical and best sounding IMO. Next, unless y...
Arcam AVP700 with Pass Labs X5 amp, good match?
At that price range, I don't think the Arcam has a rival. You'd easily have to spend twice as much to beat it. And even then, that might be more for home theater processing than 2 channel, which the Arcam does excel at.
Revel 15, or sub 30 or rel stadium III?
I guess it depends on what you're looking for out of a sub? More for music or movies? Any of the 3 you mentioned will fill a room that size. The Sub 30 will play the loudest and go the deepest. It'll also cost you twice as much as the other 2.I've...
Paradigm Studio 20 or 40?
I'd recommend sticking with the 20s. For 1, you heard those in person and that's the sound you liked. And to answer your question, yes the 40s will play louder and give you more bass, but I think the 20s sound better.
Arcam CD-73
Yes, the CD-23 is a slightly older model. It was replaced by the CD-33 2-3 years ago, which has now been replaced by the CD-36. The 23 is still 1 of the best CD players you can find for under $2500. And it's selling for around $1000 used, give or ...
Arcam CD-73
Personally, I think it's the best CD player that costs $800 or less new. You'd have to spend 50% more to get a little improvement, and twice as much to find noticeable improvements.
VT-100 MkII matches best with what preamp? HELP
1st off, congrats on the start of a killer system! I would definitely recommend you stay in the ARC family for your pre. I've heard the 2.5s with a VT100, and the synergy the system had with an ARC LS16, was better than if we subbed in costlier pr...
Any good CD for setting up/positoning a Subwoffer?
Anything with repetitive low-bass will work. I believe David Ellington from Sumiko uses uses the soundtrack from the movie Sneakers.
Rush fans on the board ??
Huge Rush fan here. I Can't just say 1. I'd rate 2112, Moving Pictures, Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres as my favorites. I saw them last year on their 30th anniversary tour. Totally blew me away. They were better than when I'd seen them 20 years...
Anyone see the Runco cl-410? Is it any good?
With the movie to t.v. ratio, and lighting control you have, I'd really give the Optoma a look. It's less than 1/2 the price, giving you 85% or so of the performance. If lighting was an issue, then I'd recommend the Runco. It would deal with outsi...
Anyone see the Runco cl-410? Is it any good?
The only projector I've seen which may give you more bang for the buck is the Optoma H31. It runs around $1400. And is amazing at that price. The Runco is clearly better. A brighter, more vibrant picture. But that's not a put down on the H31. It h...
