Need to finally replace my 8TC, but with what?
Having been a Kimber fan, I had used the 8TCs for a number of years and agree with you and the reviewers on their performance, especially at that price range. Last year I moved up to the Monocles and have been happy as a clam since. The Monocles de...
Wharfedale question
Griffin, they are both good speakers. To me, the Evo 30s sound better. They are more open, have a bigger soundstage and can boogie more than the 9.6s. I'm not sure if you'll use them more for movies or music. But musically, the 30s would be my cho...
Looking for Pre/Pro with great 2 ch sound
If you get a CasaNova, make sure it has DD, DTS, and most people prefer Circle Surround. Balanced outputs for L-R-C, is a very nice option too.
Revel M22 vs ProAc D Two
I would say the ProAc sound generally. Obviously the Revels will give you more bass, but the ProAcs sound better. They are a lot of speaker for the money, and will surprise you with how dynamic they can be, and how much bass you can get for booksh...
arcam c31, anyone familiar with this pre amp,
Arcam is a fantastic company, with some of the best value in high-end audio. In fact, their CD23 is the reason I got into this pasttime in the 1st place. Their receivers and players are 1st rate. I borrowed my dealer's AVR100 to run my Maggie 1.6s...
Herbie Hancock-Maiden Voyage
I also love Maiden Voyage, with Empyrean Isles being my 2nd fave. You may want to check out when he was with Miles Davis, as part of the 2nd Great Quintet. Stick with the earlier stuff from '64-'65. Live at the Plugged Nickel and Miles Smiles are ...
Looking for Pre/Pro with great 2 ch sound
I'd second the CasaNova vote. Then the AVP. The CasaNova has greater flexibility, and will really allow you to dial in your speakers. Very good depth and sound on 2 channel for a processor. I've listened to it recently against the NAD master serie...
Revel M22 vs ProAc D Two
Of those 2 I'd choose ProAc. They're both speakers. But I'd give the ProAc the edge with a deeper soundstage, more natural vocals, definitely more extended treble. Just an amazing midrange. Good luck either way.
Looking for the "better sub"
I own Maggie 1.6s and had a Rel Stadium III. It was actually too much for my room, but it blended nicely. It cleanly beat the Depth head to head. More musical and better integration. I now have an MJ Acoustics Ref 100, and it's nearly seamless. I ...
Best Speakers to match Ayre V-1xe and K-1xe
1st off, what an amazing front end! I've found the Ayre & Avalon combo to be pretty astounding. Since Charlie Hanson founded Avalon, it makes sense. I brought in my K-5 & V-3 to listen to the Avalon NPs, and SRV never sounded so alive. Peo...
Audio Research ref3, vtl 7.5 vs FS paramount MKII
I've never known a person who was disappointed in their Ref 3. I'd definitely take it over the VTL. I've never heard the FS, but my dealer bought the Ref 3, replacing his Levinson 380S, and he's still raving about it months later.
Krell Showcase or Theta Intrepid amp ?
I would definitely take the Intrepid over the Showcase. The Intrepid is very musical, as well as being excellent for home theater. I could see why they'd have trouble driving Aerials, they require quite a bit of juice in my experience. But the Int...
Anyone heard Proac Studio 140?
It's not as good as the D25, nor the D15 for that matter. But it is a stepup from the 125. In fact, I was surprised at the improvement since I always thought the 125 was a heckuva speaker for the price. It's just a better all-around speaker. The bi...
Subwoofer : Front Or Down Firing For Musicality ?
I agree with Warrenh's assessment, that there's more to a sub than whether it's forward or downward firing. I've heard good and bad with both designs. Having wrote that, I personally do prefer the downward firing Rel ST series and MJs, especially ...
Amp Question Please advise
I can answer your question 2 ways. 1st, yes an amp will improve not only the bass but the overrall sound of your 40s. Generally, the amplification is the weakest aspect of most receivers, and their ratings are often based on a narrow frequency ran...
