These seem a bit pricey $$$
The Wilson Watt/Puppy 3/2 sold for $12K when I first saw (and got to hear) a pair in a local store. They were very solidly built and had a reputation for being "bullit-proof"- playing VERY loud without distortion. When I listened to them I could no...
Fairly new to streaming. Where to start?
I WAS (at one time 3 years ago) going to use a MAC-MINI hooked into my (very good) CDP and use WIFI to receive HD-tracks, etc. This set-up is no longer desirable from what I gather. Still, the MAC has a 4Tb upgraded hard drive to store files. I st...
Higher End DACs
I feel what's being overlooked is the resolving power of your speakers. An advanced DAC would cost a lot but you might not be able to discern everything it's doing without very accurate transducers. I don't know enough about streaming, but with the...
WOULD IT BE DUMB TO BUY A MARK LEVINSON NO 23.5
The operational condition of the piece should be verified. I had one and enjoyed it very much. It had one failing that I only discovered after upgrading to a much better speaker- it didn't throw that 3-D image people refer to as a soundstage.  But...
What Would You Do with a Sealed, 1st Press Miles Davis "Kind of Blue"?
Speaking of Miles Davis, I am going nuts over his recordings lately. The traditional material is sensational, BUT the more modern records leading up to Bitches Brew are mind-blowing. His playing fits right in with keyboards, electric guitars, etc....
There's a lot more bass in a 6.5" driver than most of you think
I have a highly-damped bedroom with a pair of (terrible?) inexpensive speakers with 6 in. woofers (vented). The highs aren't great I'll admit -as in not very smooth. THAT is the real challenge- the upper mids and higher frequencies never sound "ju...
fair complaint about Audiogon, violating no guidelines, removed
Dear Mitch2,I didn't want to say the radio was without its faults. Truth is, the Manual Tuner has one major drawback (in my experience- I'm on my 3rd model over 15 years). Dust and/or wear and tear takes its toll in the form of excess noise when t...
fair complaint about Audiogon, violating no guidelines, removed
Hi Mitch, the radio I bought has the (older) manual tuner (like the models 1 and 2) and it has remarkable reception. Late at night I get stations that are even More distant. I "later" bought the expensive ($600 retail) model stereo Digital-Tuningr...
Why are brick and mortar HiFi dealers so bad?
If you go into an audio "salon" ready to complain about "outrageous prices" and suspicious of being "ripped off", they're not going to show you a lot of love. I used to actually buy equipment I liked from a store once I had enough money to make it...
fair complaint about Audiogon, violating no guidelines, removed
Many years ago, I did a  "new posting" which was never published. I had recommended Tivoli radios as being a remarkably good sounding with even a few similarities to high-end products. With a stereo Model#3 set-up on either side of my bed includin...
$27,500 for whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat???
Let me reiterate that it's not the cost of the paint and the labor involved that seems excessive. The Large unwieldy Chronosonic would have to be completely dis-assembled in order to get the paint applied properly, so I'm very sure they could just...
$27,500 for whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat???
WILSON makes some very expensive speakers, they advertise them as a cost-no-object product, and one of the best manufacturers in the world.I'm sure the paint job involves many hours of prep work and their employees (in Utah) make a very good wage....
Point of diminishing return for a DAC
With all the options available you're going to have to set a price limit first, regardless of whether or not you've reached "that point". Of course it's helpful to audition (at least once) a really great system just so you know.Best of luck though.
Does raising speaker cables off the floor really make a big difference?
There's one tweak I like but I am NOT making any recommendations here. It's called "Finyl"- you spray it (lightly) on your CD's and rub it gently to dry with a microfiber cloth (included). It's supposed to help the laser read the disc better, but ...
Best speakers out there for Midrange and Highs
I'M A "CONEHEAD", and all I can do is recommend what I had in my own LR- the Egglestonworks Andra-2. BUT The current version-3's use much faster midrange drivers than before. They are easy to drive (200W/ch SS) and easy to position. They sound lik...
