Going to try a tube integrated.
This comment probably will not be much help, but VTL makes some great sounding gear. I heard a stereo amp in someone's system (about 80-100W/ch) years ago and it sounded really excellent. Made me think about investing in tube equipment for awhile....
New Amps Arrived...
Orchestral music with a large choral part. I haven't heard any system that can make all that information sound real- but then I don't have a 4-box speaker system (separate subs and mid-tweeters) or 4 mono blocks or a recording that can capture all...
what replaced your Aerial 7B speakers?
Look folks, I will BUY his speakers from him (if he gives me a good price!) because I am confident they sound good. But $4500 is a sizable amount of money, so, not being a psychologist or anything, he wants to make a change. If you bolt the speake...
what replaced your Aerial 7B speakers?
EXCEPT DPM2340 was emphatic- he wants different speakers. Used Egglestons come up frequently and they are killer speakers, with one of the best tweeters ever manufactured, and a crossover designed by A.V. Schweikert. The driver integration is some...
what replaced your Aerial 7B speakers?
I honestly think there's more you don't like than just a bit more low-end. I don't want to put words in your mouth, but if you want a speaker with a 12 inch woofer or a facsimile thereof, fine. Get bigger speakers and hope they'll make you happy. ...
What are the weak points of Pass amps and pre-amps ?
THE meter is useless and you're paying for it anyway. The speaker "wing" connectors on Pass and many other top brands can make it difficult to connect heavy speaker wire with spade lugs. If you don't get the XS series with outboard power supplies ...
Krell KSA 250 amps
Krell KSA 250's have a lot of power but... well they have gotten MUCH better sounding over the years. I had an FPB-300 stereo amp that was pretty good and never gave me any problems, and I practically gave THAT away. So I wouldn't be too picky abo...
what replaced your Aerial 7B speakers?
IF you can get a deal on a used pair of Joseph Audio Pulsars, they do bass and everything else too. But if you like the way the Aerials are voiced, I wouldn't rule out a subwoofer- there are a million of them out there. Another choice would be Von...
Only you expensive cable owners, is this real?
Oxygen free copper and a well insulated covering is all you (should) need. The real trick is getting the right TERMINATIONS for your particular component(s). Since 5-way binding posts are "too old fashioned" you need banana plugs sometimes, or fle...
High resolution digital is dead. The best DAC's killed it.
I'm very pleased with Reference Recordings (HDCD) whether on LP or CD.The Japanese have also contributed to excellent sounding CD's and SACD's. The only question I HAVE is, if you still own some "records",how much should you spend on a turntable, ...
VPI 40th Anniversary Table After Warranty Support Question
I am (very) biased in my opinion. I own a VPI ARIES-ONE turntable. It has one belt. It works very nicely. The arm wobbles a little but I like it anyway. It has an excellent arm lift and gently lower the stylus onto the record.I had often looked at ...
Hey RICH Audiophiles
I have seen home after expensive home without a set-up consisting of separate audio components. They spoil the decor and their home theatre room has in-wall speakers. Perhaps orchestra conductors with liberal recording contracts buy top-of-the-lin...
Why Power Cables Affect Sound
I have had problems with overly BRIGHT aftermarket power cables. So I went back to the Belden cable that came with the amplifier and the sound became smoother and less harsh. I feel a well shielded power cable is more than adequate unless you have...
Preamp Choice... a hard call for me.
I have a weird but perhaps useful suggestion. Just  find out what can REALLY can outperform your preamp (W/O any DAC) regardless of the cost, just so you know what is possible. Then ask yourself what your speakers are capable of reproducing. Your ...
Favorite band or artist of all time?
THE subject at hand was not to tear down musicians and composers but to pay a (little) homage to an art form that touches your soul. I can mention names (even though my memory is not the greatest) of deserving people who have populated a planet wi...
