Amp for harder music with lots of sounds. I would suggest the McCormack DNA-500. Read any of the rave reviews on this piece - they are on the money. I am continually amazed at how good this amp sounds in my system - tight powerful bass, great midrange, sweet highs, very dynamic yet also r...
Preamp match for Mccormack DNA-125 I have a DNA-500 - admittedly not a 125, but somewhat similar McC "house" sound, if you will. My first preamp match was a VAC STD LE which I got for a little over $2K, used. The synergy was excellent, and this tube preamp has all the features you ...
Wilson W/P 5.1 vs B&W N802 I wasn't impressed with either - they both sounded pretty sterile in my system. In that price range, Legacy Focus 20/20 worked much better for me. I agree that you can do better. Haven't heard Usher but have heard lots of good things about them. F...
Recommended Hi end dealer I would second John Barnes of Audio Unlimited in Denver. They world premiered the Avalon ISIS speakers at RockyMtn Audiofest last October. Very knowledgeable and easy to work with. A nice guy.
XLR-RCA adapters - which to choose? Get the Cardas. I am using them on my own Nirvana S-X Ltds. for a similar problem, needing to turn a balanced cable into RCA. They are relatively inexpensive and I have not detected any sound coloration whatsoever. A simple solution.
Difference Virtual Dynamics Nite 2 and Master I can't address the Nite2 or Master speaker cables, but I have a bi-wire pair of Revelations that now have about 800 hours on them and they are further opening up in clarity, soundstaging and musicality. Unlike ANYTHING I have ever heard, anywhere...
Does anyone have the new VAC Phi 300 amplifier? Hifimaniac: Thanks for the response. I've never heard Kevin really "gush" about anything and he was like a little kid describing this new amp. I also have the Phi 2.0 preamp, Velodyne DD-15, Billy Bags rack and Sistrum amp stand. Using WHisper Leg...
Looking for warmth I totally agree with the McCormack amp suggestions. The place to introduce tubes, in my opinion and if you are so inclined, would be at the preamp level. I have been very satisfied with VAC preamps in that regard. You can pick up a used Standard L...
Does anyone have the new VAC Phi 300 amplifier? Fjn04: It's Kevin's newest, state-of-the art Amp and is supposed to be incredible. I'm not sure that it "replaces" anything, however. That would probably be a subjective call. I know its been shipping 2-3 weeks now and I'd really like to hear from...
Wanted:Warm, Sweet preamp. I would suggest VAC - probably Standard LE will give you most bang for the buck.
Dual duty and LOUD I would suggest Legacy Focus 20/20s. Rave reviews in Stereophile, but still excellent R&R speakers. Also excellent value for the $$$. Great bass and mids - I have owned 2 pair.
Vandersteen 3a Sigs, McCormack DNA 125, preamp? Try VAC - I've had 2 of their preamps now with my DNA-500 and sonically the match is wonderful. Kevin Hayes is also great to work with and his gear is built to last a lifetime. There are a number of people on this forum and I imagine elsewhere tha...
best preamp ever - cost is no object Partial to VAC Phi 2.0 - Statement piece
CJ vs. BAT vs. THOR preamps, who's best? RE:VAC - best preamps I have heard, including Thor, BAT and CJ, for sheer palpability and musicality it doesn't get much better, at any price. Very involving sound, as if you are really "there". Started with a Standard LE and now have the top of t...
Magnepan MMG & McCormack Amps questions I would call Steve McCormack for a definitive answer. |
