Best cable s for bottom end of a bi-amped system? I'll second the VD cables for bass impact. They transfer a lot of energy, translating into lots of bass. However, you may very well run into system matching issues and uneven sound if you mix different brands/gauges going to the same speaker.
Cardas vs. Synergistic Research Spaz- The active shielding on the T2 only works if you plug the wall wart into both the cable and an electrical power source, so that a blue light comes on. If you didn't do this, you didn't "hear" the cable, and that would explain why you heard "...
Best Big Sub? or duals? I find the Velodyne remote on my DD-15 a very handy feature, which I believe the Fathom subs are lacking. My room is about 19x20 with several openings so is unable to be properly "pressurized". Velodyne suggested moving up to at least the DD-18, i...
Are There Any Good, High Power Solid State Amps? Louis1- You seem to be ignoring the DNA-500 - not sure why. 500W into 8 ohms, 800w into 4 ohms. The VR4's will be singing like you've never heard them before. The 500 drove my VR7se's incredibly easily - could have broken windows, eardrums, etc. w...
Are There Any Good, High Power Solid State Amps? I would suggest McCormack's DNA-500. IMO its got it all at that price point, with no compromises. If you haven't heard one, reading the reviews will give you a good idea of how good it really is. Pretty much all the amps mentioned above have their...
Von Schweikert VR-5 vs Revel Salon2 Barry - If you want to advertise your speakers, take out an ad. Poor taste to do it here, regardless of disclosure.
subwoofer cables I am using a double run of SR Tesla Reference single-ended cables from my VAC pre to my Velo DD-15. Works very well for both movies and 2-channel. Good luck.
Power Amps with High Current or High Damping For a few more bucks, I would look at a used DNA-500 over the DNA-250. In a whole different league, IMO. Its a pretty special amp and has been very well-reviewed. I am keeping mine for a future system. Its that good.
wadia 781i vs dcs puccini I agree with the Elrod Statement II PC suggestion. That would be my first move before I tried or did anything else. You can probably pick 1 up to try from the Cable Company for a very minimal cost, which would get applied towards any future purcha...
Gershman Black Swans Thanks all for the responses. So far it sounds like they should probably be on my short list to listen to if/when I make a speaker change. If only I could learn to just leave well enough alone.....
Cardas vs. Synergistic Research IMO, what separates SR cables from everyone else is the active shielding. The T1 doesn't have this, but all the other PCs I mentioned do. I would suggest that before you form an opinion on SR PCs, you at least try 1 with the active shielding. You ...
What's better than FIM power cords I've had my best luck with Synergistic Research cables. David Elrod also makes very good PCs.
Does using same brand cables improve performance? I have discovered that there is definitely a synergy, at least in my system, with SR active-shielded cables. I would also mostly agree with the Balderdash comment, since I too have a pile of cables from different manufacturers that seemed the best...
Cardas vs. Synergistic Research Spaz- T2 should sound better than T1; Precision AC will sound better than T2; Hologram D will sound better than Precision AC. I have tried these all and ended up with the Hologram D on my DAC and on my CDP. Very revealing and lifelike. Keep in min...
What current Syn. Research ICs are equivalent to I can pretty much echo Ozzy's experience with VD cabling. I had an all VD system w/Genesis and Revelation cabling/pcs, etc. System had lots of energy, but I felt something was missing. I tried a few SR cables and was hooked. I was also very fortun... |
