Tube preamp with Adcom amp
I recommend an EAR 912 (or lesser versions 868 with or without phono pre-amp). If you play LPs, the 912 is great!  It has dual LP inputs, mono switch, muting, 4 impedance and 3 gain settings,  Change the fuse to an Acme treated for $22, a pair of ...
Nearly all manufacturers do not advertise/exhibit their product measurements? Why?
Read the ASR reviews of the Topping D70s (AKM) and D90 (ESS Sabre). 40 db quieter for the D90 BUT upon hearing these units-D70s sounds better.  Bought one as a back-up to my COS D1v.  Measurements don't tell all.
Still looking for a new Moving Coil Cartridge
With 28,500 LPs and 60 years experience, I prefer the Dynavector 20X2 L cartridge. It works great with my modified SME IV, with the Zesto Allesso SUT as well as EAR 864 and EAR 912. It is so highly valued by friends and myself because it permits u...
Rumors of CD Demise Exagerated? New Hegel
@audioman58  I thoroughly disagree concerning the current state of streaming.  Like a radio in most cases, only about 15% of the currently available content is at CD level or above.  That's 85% below and as I've experienced at audio shows, the str...
Class D amplifiers. What's the future look like?
As well as other new applications of technology such as Westminster Labs sliding bias voltage Class A cool running higher power solid state amps?   They may well function superior to Class D amps.
CD Transport
I was going to purchase a Jays Audio CD3/MK3 and probably will but in the meantime, I am using a modified Arcam Delta 250 transport and 270 cd player.  The power boards are rebuilt with massive power caps, filter caps, Sparkos regulators, etc.  Co...
Best Full-Function Preamplifier
EAR 912 is excellent. Seconded observation (possibly in my future). Very  spacious, open sound and excellent phono stage. Not too many tubes (Atmosphere using 16 tubes, mid-spec Mullard AT7s-that’s expensive and how many hours do they last in it, ...
Curious Why Benz Micro Slid Into Obscurity
@mulveling Thank you for your description. After my Benz Ruby 3 wore out, It was a little anemic dynamically but beautiful sounding and tracked perfectly. I replaced it with a Dynavector 20X2 L. The Zesto Allesso (and others) SUT works great with ...
WHY CABLES MATTER!
Sometimes zip cord is better than high end cables, certainly compared to the defunct High Fidelity Cables. Cables require system matching, especially interconnects. I’ve noted the vast differences between my friend GroverHuffman boutique patented ...
Looking for a Warmer Sounding Phono Cartridge
I also have a personal disfavor of rising high end cartridges.  I went back to a more simple Dynavector 20X2 L although I did consider the Rosewood and Hana MC (red and now blue).  I have hearing at least out to 16Khz (tested last year at 66).  I ...
A Discussion About What Level Of Analog To Stop At
@rauliruegas Absolutely incorrect.  I have 11,500 CDs.  I also use a digital recording deck and I have a DAT machine and tapes as well.   It is wrong in my opinion (obviously) that manufacturers do not supply frequency response graphs.  The risin...
A Discussion About What Level Of Analog To Stop At
Okay, I'll bite.  I have a high system (room $150K, equipment $70K?, speakers $70K?)  I purchased a VPI VI, super platter on a Townshend seismic sink, VPI power supply, 1989 highly modified SME IV arm, Dynavector 20XL2 L, Zesto Allesso SUT, Grover...
Loudspeaker sensitivity and dynamics: are the two inexorably linked?
I do not want to own speakers under 90 db efficiency with low impedances and sharp phase angles.  The speakers I have considered have been the Von Schweikert Ultra 7, Zellaton Plural Evo, Acora Acoustics SC2, Aequo Adamantis, Rockport Orion.  I cu...
Warm sounding 6922 Type Tubes
For 15 years, I preferred the large D and/or the large O getter Amperex bugle boys or equivalent.  They tended to have a full bottom end, very sweet mids and slightly recessed highs.  Lovely, just lovely.
The mistake armchair speaker snobs make too often
@kota1  and @lonemountain  Wow, that first video looks like a cheapy build in a bad factory.   The second video looks like the typical high end, high quality build, this from Paradigm.  So glad about the second video.  I saw a video of Cardas cabl...
