Why Power Cables Affect Sound
@ elizabeth  As to the kitchen magnets, I tried six of them and they are worthless as to affecting my audio and video systems. On the contrary, the E-Mats, full size, one dozen, greatly improve my sonics. Just one on the main power box signific...
Perfect Path Technologies: Omega E mat
@elizabeth Those sticks you call them, Hallographs, are made of three woods including ebony, quite expensive.  Try buying some premium quality and then machining them.  I've used Shakti Hallographs since they were invented and so do my friends who...
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
Live music can sound terrible as it usually does when it is played loud in small acoustic spaces, too amplified or in too live or dead rooms.  The acoustics where music is played is extremely important to the quality of the sound.  Recordings are ...
How important is it for you to attain a holographic image?
I would give up imaging first of the three.  Or make it fourth after dynamics, or fifth after harmonic/tonality, or sixth after rhythm/pacing.  Imaging is good to have but not essential.  I have good imaging because I have more expensive than $4K ...
Catastrophic Accident! What To Do!?
I have an HO5+ property insurance policy with a $2,500 deductible.  I also have insured all my equipment (including non-destructable items such as power outlets and Stillpoints) under scheduled property, with no deductible for $137,000 (both audio...
Why Power Cables Affect Sound
Roger of Ramtubes has the opposite view of Atmasphere and myself.  He says that any PC cable that sells for over $100 is a waste of money.  He thinks that there are advantages to better quality PCs but not after $100 price.  I've tried maybe 20 PC...

Yes, and my large O getter and D getter Amperex 6DJ8s from the 50s were labeled Hewlitt Packard.  I bought them for $80/pair nearly NOS (measured new).  They are great tubes for the EAR Acute CD player.  Others prefer NOS old Siemens or pinch wais...
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
@ rauliruegas  I agree with you concerning nearfield listening with its less than optimal sound for music listening comfort.  Back in the 70s, I reviewed concerts at UCLA Royce Hall and traded my front row tickets for 10th row.  The first couple ...
Thinking about upgrading, but wondering about diminishing returns
@lous I'm sorry to hear that your Sota/Souther/Benz analog front end caused LPs to sound less than good overall.  My VPI TNTVI/SME IV modified/Benz Ruby3 on a Townsend Sink sounds fantastic.  Most LPs are quiet to as quiet as a CD.  Used LPs sound...
Beautiful Vicoustic's flagship Wavewood panels for room tretment. Anyone?
@chakster  You have a reason to use specific color and materials for your listening room, like my living room requirements (only SR HFTs permitted for good reason as it's a formal room with my small audio system.  My new room is being built into a...
Beautiful Vicoustic's flagship Wavewood panels for room tretment. Anyone?
I'm building a new listening room (new home) which has a limited size (interior-16'w X 19.5'l X 10'h).  In my prior listening room which I had 39,000 LPs/78s on solid MDF shelving cabinets and on the floor and CDs in steel cabinets, with up to 11....

The cleartop RCA 12AU7 was made in abundance.  It was used in many electric organs in the 50's and 60's, often rebranded.  Great tube for cheap price.

I prefer the Nakamichi 7A to the Dragon as do some other owners.  It is mechancially more stable with no auto reverse and has manual azimuth adjustment.  I've used mine for 30 years.  Otherwise, sonically, I prefer the Tandberg cassette decks.  Ex...
The Future of Audio Amplification
My best friend uses a Channel Islands Class D amp and he is comfortable using it.  He would like to substitute one of my Class A/B voltage regulated amps which can control the bass of his demanding speakers instead but can't afford the change.  He...

geoffkait - I’ve purchased about 18 Mercury Living Presence pop LPs from Stan Ricker in the 1990s, the engineer of them and of Mobile Fidelity LPs. He told me that many of them had parts of the recording out of phase while other parts were in phas...
