What do you say to your audiophile friends who say you just listen to your equipment more
Most of my audiophile friends are mostly music lovers first.  Sure they enjoy my system and I enjoy theirs but its about the music for us and we have an appreciation for a wide variety of music.  I just don't care for Gregorian Chants, Rap and Hip...
New Omega E Mat from Perfect Path Technologies
I use a dozen E-mats and had 2 on top and 1 under my EAR Acute CD player.  The mats improved resolution, depth, "warmth"  and dynamics on the power panels, CD player, phono and pre-amp and isolation transformer.  They did nothing when I placed two...
New Omega E Mat from Perfect Path Technologies
I have had an experience which indicates that the E-Mat doesn’t work on 100% of high end audio equipment to its benefit. I recently installed a fabulous DAC, the solid aluminum billeted case enclosed COS Engineering D2. I placed one of my Omega E-...
VPI's new "Vanquish" Ultra High-End turntable is a STUNNER!
My friend and I heard the Clearaudio Statement V2 or another by them which was $120,000 back in 2016 about at a show.  We were not impressed.  However, I've read reviews that just the center weight makes a huge difference.  Maybe, but what we hear...
VPI's new "Vanquish" Ultra High-End turntable is a STUNNER!
I gave specific examples of why I rated my own VPI tables as very good but not great.  The latest one discussed here may have solved the vibration problem or not.  The VPI arm may or may not be lacking in high end qualities, especially in the bass...
How many of you believe in MQA?
@Brianlucey @bkepke and @iopscprl  I agree with you three the most of this forum's posters.  I've heard MQA at audio shows and cannot remember the equipment.  Overall, I wasn't impressed.  The rooms had a spacious, wide sound but nothing wanted ...
The 5 stages of making a bad audio purchase
I saw the photos of the Von Schweikert exhibit on-line.  That room was humongous.  Doesn't look like the other rooms they've shown in or the one I heard.  However, I brought my own LPs and CDs to hear the Ultra 11 set-up which I used throughout th...
How much do you need to spend to get digital to rival analog?
I have a half dozen Denon digital recorded LPs. They have good sound. Denon made 2,039 digital LPs/CDs (visit Discogs.com to view) with many original recordings. Denon 1300, 1500 and 1600 CD players were very good for their time. Today, a cheap So...
VPI's new "Vanquish" Ultra High-End turntable is a STUNNER!
Yes, I have had two unipivot arms prior to the SME (back in the 1980s). First an Audiocraft then a longer Ultracraft. Good arms but not great arms. One had to dial in the correct amount of damping oil in the trough to use them. I have heard good s...
The 5 stages of making a bad audio purchase
geoffkait  Again, you're talking out of your ....  You haven't heard the system and your dismissing it as garbage.  Dozens of audio critics spent hours listening to that system all over the U.S. and thought it was the most entrancing music reprodu...
The 5 stages of making a bad audio purchase
My wife heard the Von Schweikert/VAC/Kronos/etc. $1.4 million audio system at a show and said that's the one she wants.  I can't afford it and it is too large for my listening room.  But that's the one she wants which is better than 99.9% of what ...
The 5 stages of making a bad audio purchase
On any residential zoned lot, one can construct up to a 10’ X 12’ shed, not larger, without permit, but can build as many as a lot can hold (in my lot, about two dozen on my grassy areas). Stupid laws in California. Gov Newsom and the Democratic s...
The 5 stages of making a bad audio purchase
glupson-I was prepared to spend another $50,000 if the room was 25’ X 20’ X 14’, the site of my extra land adjacent to my family room. However, on 3-17-2017 the City of Los Angeles passed a anti-mansionization law that downsized to 20% buildable a...
How much do you need to spend to get digital to rival analog?
You are correct.  The room acoustics and power quality are paramount to maximizing the abilities of the electronics/speakers.  That's why I spent more on my room construction than on my audio equipment and it paid off.  See near the bottom of Page...
How much do you need to spend to get digital to rival analog?
My experience with live recordings using a Tandberg 310 back in the early 1980s with chrome? Sony and TDK top cassettes had really low noise/hiss levels without Dolby.  I have transferred my recordings to CD using a Alesis Masterlink and they play...
