Denafrips Avatar looks the goods The only, single thing I don't love is that if you hit Play on the Jay's AUdio transport is that after pausing a song, it starts the song over instead of resuming from the paused position. The pause problem will be a problem for me as I often list...
Springs under turntable I chose the easy way out for my full size, 185 lb. speakers using spikes. I have a custom listening room with 12" thick, steel rebar reinforced, 3000 lb psi poured slab. At least no vibrations are going from the floor up, possibly only the speak...
Advice on CD transport @scothurwitz I will be using it in conjunction with the COS Engineering DV2v, the same as in one reviewer's system. Apparently, a great match using SPDIF connection per video review https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Jays+Audio+CDT2+MKII+review...
If you still spin CD's their is a reference level Transport for reasonable money Someone mentioned obtaining better sound using an isolation transformer. I will be using it with a Bryston Bit-20 I.T.
Desire to try tubes Grover Huffman of GroverHuffman.com He is a cable manufacturer. I also have another Dynaco waiting for him to remodel. His Pharoah cables are SOTA quality at hugely lower prices. I also changed the RCAs and speaker terminals which were inexpen...
Desire to try tubes @jjss49 My Dynaco ST70 has been redesigned with an SS rectifier stage, huge storage cap located in the bottom of the case and voltage regulated operation, using the center taps on the transformer so that it is no longer an ultralinear design. Th...
Desire to try tubes I suggest used VAC amps, either old triode or recently deleted 200 phi. The latter was replaced at $14k with auto biasing circuitry, like Prima Luna uses but the used unit I've seen in the $4k range for similar sound and uses fewer, easy to repla...
Advice on CD transport @scothurwitz Thanks for the information on Jays Audio CDT2 MKII. I am looking for a near SOTA transport that will improve on the already good sound I am getting using the EAR Acute as a transport, but for a reasonable price. I doubt that a $1,000 ...
Tweaks you got rid of because they were not effective (enough)? Number 1 tweak for analog since 2011-2, Magic Eraser for cleaning the stylus. I suspect I have doubled the life of my Benz Ruby3 making sure to use this free tweak for almost a decade. Better than the Onzow. Use Disc Doctor stylus cleaner once...
Tweaks you got rid of because they were not effective (enough)? If it wasn't for the SR HFTs (32X), I would have had to buy expensive quadradic diffusion paneling from front and rear walls. If it wasn't for the two pairs of Hallographs, my Legacy Focuses would have remained unfocused sounding. Those are my ...
Who are your three favorite female singers? @tyray Yes, she was a phenomenal singer. Marian Anderson was comparable as a Black spirituals singer (American folk) as well as an outstanding opera and classical recital singer. @whatjd I have 7 LPs and 11 CDs (some double LP sets) of June Chr...
If you could, what live performances would you enjoy re-living? My friend Frank (Oregonpapa) regularly went to the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach, CA and heard all the great West Coast jazz musicians. He said that those were sensational experiences I bet they were!
Advice on CD transport Will the Cyrus read 80+ minute CDs such as the many made by Decca classical CDs? A review said if your platters are not in top condition, or formatted to the precise Red Book CD spec, it may struggle to read them.
If you could, what live performances would you enjoy re-living? Bob Wilbur played in Copenhagen often. I heard him at the Jazz Bakery in Culver City. Too crowded but he was great!
Best 40 to 50k used speakers It could cost $40-$50K to outdo many great inexpensive speakers such as my Legacy Focuses $2.5-$3K used). However, I am planning to purchase Von Schweikert VR9 MkIIs very slightly less than that. Those were $115K 5 years back. $40 to $50K can get ... |
