Advice on CD transport I have a related question. I am using my EAR Acute as a transport for my COS Engineering DV2 DAC. Does replacing the EAR with a standalone transport improve my sound? If so, what transport would significantly make an improvement? A Luxman, M...
Who are your three favorite female singers? @tyray Yes, Elizete Cardoso sang beautifully and I have many albums from the 50's/60's Brazilian song and jazz. An earlier Brazilian favorite of mine is Elsie Houston. who had a very wide vocal range (she trained with 2 tremendous sopranos) and ...
Who are your three favorite female singers? @ sondeknz Julie London had a small voice and occasional pitch problems. She still sounded very sexy. As to a female performance which always gives me goose bumps/makes me cry is Beverly Sills in The Ballad of Baby Doe. There are five fabulo...
Who are your three favorite female singers? @ sondeknz My mistake, you didn't mention Garland. I heard Stacey Kent. A small, thin sounding voice. I prefer fuller sounding voices with a wider frequency range. Judith Durham was okay, had pitch problems when she sang. I might as well ...
Who are your three favorite female singers? davidm238 Only my sister would agree with you (collects all Streisand since she was a child).
Poor Fritz Fritz never said that his speakers were perfect and flawless. Only a few manufacturers have told me that at shows and their speakers generally were very imperfect. Fritz builds really nice smaller speakers for a reasonable price.
Speakers which always sound good Maggies do not always sound good. They require proper amplification (ample), otherwise they sound anemic. Placement is also critical. Hence, not universally good sounding unlike a Harbeth. Great speaker potential though when set up and power are ...
Speakers which always sound good Extensive auditioning of Harbeths-always sounded good with all types of music, equipment and easy to set up and pair up to equipment. Von Schweikert for not making a less than musical speaker but requires more effort than a Harbeth to get them s...
What's your favorite boutique speaker maker Von Schweikert, Lumen White, Volti. Would Harbeth be considered a boutique speaker manufacturer? Never heard a less than musically interesting speaker from these manufacturers.
Who are your three favorite female singers? Opera - Claudia Muzio Rosa Ponselle Roberta PetersPop - Ruth Etting Ella Fitzgerald Judy Garland@ sondeknz The question was top 3, not a list of 90. I have 42,000 LPs/78s/CDs. I chose my top three from recordings dating back ...
Poor Fritz I've met Fritz at several audio shows. He is a very nice man. I enjoyed listening to his speakers. I would compare them to Harbeths (smaller ones). I am not in the market for mini-monitor type speakers but I can recommend them based on what I...
Am I too big of a jerk, even for audiogon? I propose Kenjit as the poster who best exemplifies your description.
Thinking about getting a R2R DAC I have a very analog, warm sounding EAR Acute CD player. I purchased a COS Engineering D2v after 15 years. It is probably a delta-sigma type. It has superior resolution. It was compared to the less expense H1 unit. The difference was the H1 had a ...
Your most indispensable "tweak"? Oh, and Stillpoints under my equipment, especially my pre-amp which is custom made but had a dark, slow and mushy sound on it’s hard rubber cone feet. Townsend seismic sink under my VPI TNT turntable-essential due to VPI’s poor vibration control. ...
Your most indispensable "tweak"? @testpilot 100% agree. Unless cabling is considered equipment and not tweaks. In that case, Hallographs and SR HFTs are most cost effective and necessary acoustical room treatments. |
