Stereophile's 2021 products of the year
It is interesting that the stereo-magazine.com article does not indicate the distortion level at 64/65 watt continuous output as well as other problems Atkinson found.   https://www.stereophile.com/content/vac-sigma-170i-iq-integrated-amplifier-me...

@mesch Speaker sensitivity AND impedance/phase angle are to be considered jointly as to the ability of an amplifier to power the speakers unlike the @millercarbon statement. I own speakers with a 98db sensitivity that have a low impedance of 3.2 o...
Most rooms don’t need acoustical treatment.
@millercarbon - @jumia has not heard many power cords in even a middling quality audio system.  Sheesh.  Why are there so many posters who don't believe that cabling sounds significantly different?   Don't they have something better to do in their...
The Lifespan of an LP?
@audioquest4life  Thank you very much.  Many of my post 1925 78s of jazz/pop and vocals are especially lifelike and dynamic as they were the original direct to disc records.  Many people (non-audiophiles) tell me that they enjoy listening to recor...
The Lifespan of an LP?
chakster  I agree, only deep cleaning once and then use a carbon fiber brush.  My room is not very dusty and no animals invade it.  audioquest4life  I have 7000 78s and play them on a VPI 19-4/Ultracraft 400/Grado  at 4 grams.  I don't notice any ...
Most rooms don’t need acoustical treatment.
I considered Helmholtz resonators decades ago but purchased two pair of Hallographs supplemented by SR HFTs.  I agree with Mahgister.   My tuning is for music, not scientific measurements just as an anechoic chamber is made for testing, not music.
Most rooms don’t need acoustical treatment.
I dislike the use of DSP for acoustic corrections for speakers.   Some manufacturers feel that is the solution to mate their speakers to rooms.   I built my listening room to accommodate most speakers, especially those that reach deep bass (my cut...
Power regenerator vs conditioner
Michael Fremer lost his audio system to a switch for his back up power generator.  While pending a separation of that power switch from his audio system, he installed PS Audio's power regenerator.  The result is that he got his system back.  Many ...
The Most "Analog" CD Player?
twodolphins  No question about it, the EAR Acute sounds analog like the way you described it.  I started hoarding CDs even from the 1980s once I bought the Acute in 2006.  So easy to listen to.  However, 2019, I heard the COS Engineering DAC D2v w...
The Lifespan of an LP?
Okay, Whart is 100% correct.  Inna is wrong!   Sorry, the vinyl record, if of good quality or near 100% virgin vinyl, is an elastic medium.  Once played, it requires about 24 hour rest period prior to returning to it's original shape.  Hence, I ha...

I moved from a 5500 cu.ft. listening room of good but not great construction (windows to the side and front walls, 5/8" drywall & 5/8" acoustic wall material) which reflected too much sound despite my 2 pairs of Hallographs and full array of S...
Anyone Tried COS D2 DAC?
I own the D2v and my friend (a cable manufacturer) has the H1.  The D2v balances neutrality with a fully fleshed out tone, smooth highs and thunderous bass.   The new D10 adds streaming and phono capabilities as a full preamp.   The H1 is airier, ...
Full circle and thinking about speakers
I recommend used Legacy Signature IIIs which are usually $1600 to $2200.  94db efficient and 4 ohm but not much lower so easy to drive.  They are super dynamic with deep, punchy bass (3-10" woofers) with ambiance rear tweeter (opens up your room) ...
What makes speaker's sound big?
I had my custom moderate size listening room designed to accommodate 6-12" woofers at high efficiency, 98db.  Now I get 25 Hz down just a few db.  Bass is not an issue.  This is very superior to my prior room which was 25' X 20' X 11.5' where I on...
Can't believe I let myself get sucked in again.
