Would you buy a piece of gear with a defect? Has anyone noticed that OP has not posted since the original. He must not have truly wanted help or opinions. Maybe this was the seller, not the buyer. Time wasted...
Holographic Soundstage ? Did most of you see that the only thing he changed was the amp? A more powerful tube amp will help to control the drivers better, thus better sound. I'm not saying he needs the power for volume, but control. Play with the Raven up until the return...
Ground Wire Are you using a ground block or power conditioner? By outlet, he means the same wall outlet and if possible the same plug in that wall outlet. I know I'm not @speakermaster, but trying to help. This does apply to ALL components. It does not matter...
Ground Wire Good suggestion to use XLR's, but how is that going to help the OP? It doesn't appear that he has XLR's...
The Sound of Speaker. MC got me, I deserved it!
The Sound of Speaker. He did give up on Rega. Now he wants to be an expert on all design and speaker types. Good luck.
Ground Wire You've definitely created a ground loop. Everything should be to one outlet on the same line. Avoid different power lines at all cost. Ground problems are TRICKY. You might want to look into a ground block.
Silver Head Shell Leads I like silver wire. That being said, for maybe 6 inches of wire total, don't think you could tell the difference. I couldn't justify $600 for contact enhancer, but haven't tried it. If you've got the cash, try it and let us know. No Rhodium!
Holographic Soundstage ? Well since all you changed was the amp, either be patient or go back to the Krell. Remember you're comparing 150 watts to a 20 watts! Your speakers are not efficient enough for that amp in my opinion. You will need to make several changes if you w...
Insuring Your Vinyl Collection and Equipment Excellent, thanks.
Half speed masters. Are they worth the extra scratch? The first pix I saw of the PL530 only showed 1 line of squares on the platter, so I thought that's how they were made. Subsequent pix show 4 lines of squares. You should be able to get one of them to be stationary at 45 rpm. Look at MC's system, h...
Half speed masters. Are they worth the extra scratch? That was funny MC, but... In general half speed masters do sound better, but I only have 33 rpm versions, no 45's. One 1/2 speed of Blondie Parallel Lines sounds worse the original Chrysalis version. MC would tell you to buy a $500 selected "white...
Matching components? I agree, that Pass amp looks great! Bi-amp or tri-amp anyone?
Would you buy a piece of gear with a defect? Have you looked inside? JC2 Manual Online (htguide.com) I'm guessing you don't have a schematic. Preamps are usually an easier fix than other components. I read something that this is an FET preamp, if so I'd be concerned about obsolete parts. Do...
Would you buy a piece of gear with a defect? If you think you can fix it, yes. I'd offer 50% of what he's asking at the most. |
