Anyone's tried repairing/upgrading original Vandersteen 1 speakers?
If you have to buy it, for those speakers, I would not take a chance.
Why do we want to distortions?
dekay - LOL, literally, thanks.

+1 oldhvymec, I totally agree that LOW voltage kills electronics. Probably the most important in my opinion. Think it's higher on the list than power surges. Just my 2 cents...
Silver Head Shell Leads
I guess Hughes Electronics thought so too. Something about the gold caused the aluminum to oxidize and create bond failures. I'm thinking other materials besides gold would also cause this type of failure. I know silver oxidizes and silver oxide i...
So done with audiophile fuses
I think I'll try replacing all of my fuses after the power switches with solid wire. I am NOT RECOMMEDING this option by any means! I want to hear for myself if they really affect sound. I will be sure to keep a couple fire extinguishers handy! ...
Would you buy a piece of gear with a defect?
Just checking for a pulse. I do like Parasound a lot, would be a yes for me. I would like to hear about what you find if you pursue.
Silver Head Shell Leads
This has been a great learning experience, thanks to all. I have known for a longtime that connectors/connections are the weak link, so still a lot of things to try. Does anyone know about intermetallic formation between gold and silver? I know fr...

Thanks for that suggestion pindac. Never thought about PC Triple C for phono use, I will check it out.
Dumb question HT bypass
Seems like maxwave is confused, I know I am.
User Error Disaster
In my opinion it's a decent amp. I would look into the upgrade kit mentioned by one Agoner. There's one on ebay now, but it's sold as is for parts and not guaranteed to work  Very Rare B&K Components Ltd. EX 442 Power Amplifier Top Quality St...
Ground Wire
For ground loops you should ONLY use a high grade power block. This is the last resort. You are absolutely correct about XLR's. You should always put all components into one outlet. Even some outlet boxes can have 2 sources.
Dumb question HT bypass
Excellent explanation. I do the same and actually rarely use my 5.1 preamp at all because it just doesn't sound very good compared to the preamp I use for stereo listening. I don't know of an AVR that has XLR's, but maybe. There are multi-channel ...
Would you buy a piece of gear with a defect?
Has anyone noticed that OP has not posted since the original. He must not have truly wanted help or opinions. Maybe this was the seller, not the buyer. Time wasted...
Holographic Soundstage ?
Did most of you see that the only thing he changed was the amp? A more powerful tube amp will help to control the drivers better, thus better sound. I'm not saying he needs the power for volume, but control. Play with the Raven up until the return...
Ground Wire
Are you using a ground block or power conditioner? By outlet, he means the same wall outlet and if possible the same plug in that wall outlet. I know I'm not @speakermaster, but trying to help. This does apply to ALL components. It does not matter...
