Do you build anything for your high fidelity system? If so, what do you make? I guilt my audio racks from 1.5" butcher block and black iron pipe. I also built my record cabinet and CD cabinets from the same 1.5" butcher block. Oh and I built my own power cables from Furuteck components.
Dust cover up or down? FWIW I have a VPI HW-40 and even though it has a hinged dust cover, I do not use the hinges. When I play, I simply take the cover off and set it aside. It goes back on after I am through. That is a lot better than dusting around the top of the tab...
Dust cover up or down? "Can’t think of a single ultra high end TT that has a hinged cover? Would love to know if there are any?" The VPI HW-40 comes with a hinged dust cover. The price new of the table is $20,000. Is it considered high end? I would think so.
My First DIY Power Cable I did DIY for all my power cables with Furutech components from thecableco. I bought heat shrink tubing and sheathing from Amazon. They turned out great. I was able to make each cable the exact length it needed to be. On average they were about $1...
recommended oil for well tempered spindle cup VPI just recommends 40W synthetic motor oil on its website. I bought Super Lube from Amazon in a tube for $5 and it works just fine.
Power Cables and Wall Sockets I guess I was lucky in that my whole house was wired with 20 amp circuits. We bought the house in 2016 and it had ben built in 2008. The original owner was a computer guru and had the circuits all 20 amp.
I want to move from Rega Planar 6 help me to pick a new turntable FWIW I would go with a VPI. That is what I am looking to do very soon. You do not have to go unipivot as there is a gimbal option. Unipivot are fine but can be subject to vibrations in many instances depending on where you have them set up.
Let me explain something to you jive turkeys. You are never too old or young to enjoy different music. I am 73 and since getting bak into vinyl, I found that I enjoy jazz from almost before I was born. I am not so much into the bands of my youth in the 60's. I also really enjoy classical musi...
The panic selling of tube audio had begun. I ordered 4 tubes from The Tube Store on 3/11 and they shipped that day. Got them on 3/14. They were certainly efficient. I guess this was just before the panic buying. I already had replacements for my preamp. These were for my phono preamp. FYI ...
Your single most significant purchase mistake? There was a recent thread regarding McIntosh and a lot of folks trashed the brand. Interesting that only one mention where someone bought a Mc product and did not like it!!! FWIW I do own and very much like McIntosh.
McIntosh -- good for show, not for sound, says dealer I rarely post about my system because it is McIntosh and on this forum there are so many McIntosh bashers it is not worth the abuse. Hopefully we have bashed McIntosh enough for 2022.
Power Cable Suggestions Needed FWIW I built my own with Furutech components. I had a lot of fun doing it. I was able to get just the right lengths for everything. They look great I might add.
How long ago did you catch the bug? The early 1960's or so. I built my first amp from a kit. The name escapes me but they also had a turntable kit of sorts also. My first record was the Ventures.
Anyone Seen a Feb 2022 Stereophile Issue?? Got mine on Tuesday this week.
Are tubes psychological? I do not have tube amps but my pre and phono pre have tubes but I cannot see them. What I can see on everything are big blue meters and they do have a calming affect on me while listening. Yes I am addicted to blue meters...! |
