Best cd player under $600 used for system I really liked my Audio Refinement CD player! And it also has a digital output (RCA) for an external DAC, which can be a really cost efficient method for a future upgrade!
bi amp question Best bet is to input your cables into the tweeter input (in theory) but whether you will actually hear any difference is another matter! Of course, try both ways! Experimenting with equipment and system set-up is one of the many joys of our hobby ...
My heart goes out to the families of Columbia I have been deeply saddened by all three of America's space program tragedies and loss of the brave and dedicated astronauts. Each time, I felt as if someone punched me in the gut. I've been listening to Elton John's "ROCKET MAN" and David Bowie's...
Which is better lateral or vertical bi-amping? I have heard that vertically (each amp feeds the low and high of one channel) makes more sense, since there will be more headroom than if one amp handles just the low frequencies. On a deep bass note, in a horizontal arrangement, the bass amp will...
Dealing with Voltages: 110v to 220v vice versa Check with the manufacturer! Many of the electronic gear have TWO taps on the transformer, one for 110 volts, and one for 220v (saves LOTS of money for them, since they don't have to inventory two different (and pricy) toroidal transformers. A sni...
Can you ever have too much power? Stne418, here you go!Basically, it's a geometric progression. For POWER (watts) a 3dB increase requires a doubling of power, a 6 dB increase a quadrupling of power, a 9dB requires 8 times the power, 12 dB requires 16 times the power, etc. Voltage ...
Can you ever have too much power? Nalu...great post, and thanks for the info about Plinius. I was unaware of the class A/B standby mode. Great idea...but are there any trade-off's (there usually are in audio). Things like more complicated circuit design, with a greater cost and pe...
Can you ever have too much power? I used to go for MONDO power when running SS amps (class A/B). Now that I've switched to tubes, I like to use reasonable powered amps (say 50%-75% of rated speaker handling power). I'm using an Atma-sphere M-60 MkII.2 (60 watt mono's). Replacement...
1950-2000: The 10 Greatest Songwriting Teams Elton John/Bernie Taupin especially "Madman Across The Water", "Tumbleweed Connection", "Honkey Chateau", and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". After that period, they took a nose-dive, in my opinion! B.T.W., the Mofi Gold CD version of "Madman" SUCKS ...
What did he say? Misunderstood lyrics. Dedicatedaudio, according to the lyrics on the back of the LP jacket (The Roaring Silence):"Blinded by the light Wrapped up like a deuce Another runner in the night."Do you realize that this song was written by Bruce Springsteen, who also did a ve...
What do in store listening tests prove? Kinda like taking a new car for a test drive. You won't really know how it will perform once totally broken in, or if it will suit all of your particular driving needs or all driving/road/weather situations. But it will eliminate those vehicles th...
What did he say? Misunderstood lyrics. Wstritt, here's the link for botched and misunderstood lyrics:http://www.kissthisguy.com/Some pretty funny stuff!
If your CD's are harsh, try this I use the Auric Illuminator system (black pen & anti-static/polishing fluid). This seems to do a good job of removing some of the digital glare on CD's.
Best line conditioner??? I keep saying it, and so does T.A.S.! David Blair's Custom Power Cord Line (line conditioners and power cords) is full of some amazing AND AFFORDABLE gear! His products have won more T.A.S. Golden Ear awards than any other single manufacturer, as ...
Bug Ugly TWL, just goes to show, I happen to really like the looks of the MBL "hot air balloon" speakers! However, I really hate the looks of their huge and mega-buck power amps. They remind me of Teutonic ship ballast weights! |
