WTD - 3D Sound like Amused To Death By R Waters
Egoss, "Amused" on vinyl will cost $100+ used (and who knows how "used") and $200- to $300- new and sealed! Also, it is a two LP set, meaning that you will have to jump up 3 times to hear the music in its entirety. My personal belief is that this ...
WTD - 3D Sound like Amused To Death By R Waters
Proy, I hope that you have the Gold Columbia Mastersound disc with Sony's Super Bit Mapping! Another great Gold disc is DCC's "The Summit". The late Frank, Dean, and Sammy [last names not needed!] recorded live. Although not 3D like "Amused", it s...
Should I leave my equipment on ?
Elizabeth, you're close! Actually, it's the coupling or storage capacitors in the amp/preamp, that take time to charge, stabilize, and reach optimum performance. The cross-over networks in most speakers are passive, and are good to go, immediately...
Ebay Tube Blues
My understanding of tubes in relationship to your problems: 1) As tubes get older, you will have to increase the bias voltage/amperage. I always turn DOWN the bias setting before installing new tubes(should need less bias for new tubes). I am usin...
Pardon my naivete, but what does "redbook" mean?
Teamnokaoi, your comments are counter-revolutionary. Loyal revolutionary guard forces would shortly be arriving at your home to take you and your family away to a "re-education camp", except that our money is worthless, and we can't even pay them ...
Loading times / problems on Agon ???
I noticed a problem this morning. From about 1 to 3 A.M. (PDT). Same problems that you described. "Could not locate website" every time I tried to navigate to a different page. Clicked the "refresh" and the page opened, but VERY SLOWLY. I had a bu...
Pardon my naivete, but what does "redbook" mean?
Or it could mean...A pricing guide for numismatists (coin collectors)A communist revolutionary's handbook
Where does that hiss on the master come from?
TANSTAAFLOr, "There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch"! Masters from the '60's and '70's used analog tape, and a miniscule amount of hiss in the higher frequency ranges is normal. Good master tapes would run at speeds of 30 i.p.s. (that's almost...
A pair of "warm sounding"6922 tub
Be careful when buying Mullards. You want ORIGINAL TUBES from the '60's or '70's. There are people (no names!) selling mil-spec Mullards, in white boxes that were manufactured in the '80's. I am familiar with the 12AU7 variety, marked as a CV 4004...
Upbeat music suggestions?
Just got a copy of "Tremulous Antenna" by Be Bop Deluxe. This is a live BBC concert. Some of their earlier stuff is reminiscent of early Bowie. I have constantly heard their music classified as "Glam", but I disagree! Bill Nelson is probably the b...
Floorstanders on wood floor, help
Aurios under the speakers! I like to use a set of 4, not 3, under each for stability with speakers. You will need some type of boards (mdf), concrete, marble, or tile under the aurios, between them and the carpet, to maintain a hard and level surf...
Solar Powered Stereo?
If only you were working at NASA, with your expertise and attention to detail, they might not have lost two space shuttles, Twl!
Why does this circa '75 receiver sound so good?
My favorite receiver (and B.T.W., that of many British audio reviewers) from the mid '70's was the Sony STR-6800 SD. It was built like a brick s**t-house, used a quality attenuator, not just a cheapo volume pot. Had an interesting Dolby FM de-emph...
Any recomendation fro balanced phono stage?
Atma-sphere MP-3. It is a line stage AND phono, with ONLY balanced in/outs (except for the two tape loops which are single ended RCA's).
I've a confession to make don't tell my wife
And if you think that points improve the sound of speakers, try using Aurios isolation bearings under them and you'll never go back to any kind of cones again!
