Who has kids that are in a band or have been? Oh and I forgot about the 18" sub with its 1500 watt amp (size of a small refrigerator), not to mention the Mackie powered mixer and Crown amp that drive the whole thing. Great for making use of the discrete channel outs from the Oppo disc player.
Who has kids that are in a band or have been? The sound system for my kids' band has been my home theater system since the band broke up; it all worked out well for dad and you can't beat the JBL stage monitors (horn mid/treble 15" for mains and 15"x2 for rear;12"x2 for center channel) for m...
300 Watt Tube Monoblocks Recommendation: don't. (room heater, expensive to maintain)
Is there an 'Audiophile' Reel-to-Reel Machine for Under $1,000? No. And most likely anything you would find used and in need of repair would be a 4-track machine, whereas the new "audiophile" tapes are almost exclusively 2-track. If you want a cheap machine, are you really willing to spend $400 on up PER ALB...
I’m considering upgrading my speakers internal wiring Go for it! They'll be your "forever" speakers; especially since nobody will want to risk buying them with your mod, if they like speaker's OEM voicing.
What's the weakest link in my stereo set up? I live in a townhome, so limited on space. Agree with sub recommendation; for your budget you can't do much of an improvement in your TT setup. Cambridge is (IMO) a weak link, but since it serves multiple functions, may not be able to improve within your budget. Let you wife select a nic...
No one talks about Purist Audio Design cables. Have had Elementa and Aqueous speaker cables for decades; Aqueous still in use in my living room system; Elementa in storage (replaced by much more flexible Morrow SP-4 cables).

Are Headphones Fit for Serious Music Listening? At 2 in the morning with family members still asleep for another 4 hours, it's headphones or nothing. Quite satisfied with my K801's with mod'ed cables and WA6 tube amp.
"The room can totally wreck, or make, a system" This is why it is so difficult to get new entrants into this hobby; we keep making it more complicated (and expensive) for newbies to put together a system (including room) that is acceptable to 'us" and not subject to outright ridicule and scorn.
New remastering of Steely Dan's Katy Lied review by Fremer IME, fidelity wise, Katy Lied is one of the worst sounding albums I have ever heard. Wow. Either not a lot of experience listening, or just making the statement to draw flies. Haven't seen a thread with this much overstated garbage in a long time.
a 3 way design speaker with the ESS Heil type sound Look into Piega.
Class A bias, speaker sensitivity, watts...? Yes; for.a small office you've got probably 10x the power you need for those listening levels. A, A/B or other, watts is watts.
Retirement integrated amp for a “fiscal conservative”…..Part 1: I have a plan From someone in your age group (a couple of years older) and dealing with tinnitus and hearing loss (old age sucks!), I've found a Luxman class-A integrated to be my "end game" component. At your budget, you can probably get any of their gear, at...
Such Great help before. Maybe some more help now I supplement my Forte IV's with a REL S/510 (driven by Luxman class A). One of the best extra investments I ever made; seamless sound and disappears as a separate sound source, once properly set up (and that part was easy). |
