SME V/309 Tonearms With LP12 or VPI MKIII
Instead of "I read it somewhere", please..... SME arm is not heavier than Ekos. Works extremely well on LP12 properly setup. Later LP12 with corner brace may need to file off some wood.309 easily beats Ittok. Of course, it is personal taste betwee...
MC cartridge rebuild
It costs about $600 the last time I checked. Basically, Linn will return you another (different) Troika that has already been rebuilt. You don't get back the your original one. I don't see it as a problem.IMHO, a great deal. Since the lowest cost ...
Moving coil cartridge advice needed
The JMW and VPI tend to be warm, so don't pair with warmer cartridge like Benz. With Lyra, they tend to be neutral. And with Van den hul, you get very good complimentry qualities, being fast and airy. The Frog, especially the one with gold coil is ...
Isolation methods for your VK50SE preamp
I had listen to both 50SE and 5SE, before deciding to go with 5SE. Reason being the 5SE is slightly rounder and smoother, while 50SE is super transparent but just a bit too 'in the face'. Personal preference. To summarize my experience:Aurios are w...
Koetsu Black
Loading is 100 ohm and this number is constant regardless of tube or solid state. However if you're using step up transformer, than the transformer should be 10-20 ohm input impedance. Output is 0.5mV. VTA parallel to slightly lower tonearm (1-3 d...
Linn Linto vs Audio Research PH3
I had the PH3 and Linto, and had the exact chance to compare Linto + Arkiv/Ekos vs. PH3.As repeated many times, Linto + Arkiv or Troika is a match in heaven. The sound is dynamic, a lot of punch, and very engaging. THe sound has a sure footed conf...
Ortofon Jubilee on Ekos II - comments?
I owned Linto, Troka, and Arkiv B for an extended period of time. My experience with Linto and trying different cartridges concluded that Linto sounded best with Linn cartridges. I tried Troika as well as Arkiv B. Even with a more expensive Koetsu...
Static from Aesthetix phono stage when tt not on
Hi,Looks like by having 2 ground bar, you created a ground loop. Try to use single ground for audio gear. Using a silver-based ground wire helps tremendously, especially if you can find an 8ga silver litz wire for ground.Silver plated ground bar h...
Meridian CD Players
I have the separate 566.24 and 500 for 2 years, then I found better. I can tell you the followings cost less sound better:Yamaha CDR-1000 (also a CDR) New price is $1200.Proceed PDT-3 (transport)Marantz CDR620, CDR615 (transport)Philips SACD-1000M...
The Groove Phono Pre-Amp
Everything in the review and other comments are quite spot on. I have it for 1 year, and superceeded all others including Vendetta, Krell, Linto, Spectral DMC20, AI M3a, ARC PH3.
Tonearm-Preamp Grounding Problems-HELP
1) Get a multimeter, digital from Radio Shack is inexpensive (DMM)2) Measure the level of ground leakage, by connecting the DMM from tonearm betal to the ground on your wall socket. Repeat this for the Naim, tuner etc. Try to do them in isolation ...
I need a phono preamp and I'm leaning toward Krell
Owned the KPA 4 pcs. The sound stage is one of the widest and deepest. My only complaint is it sounds like Krell, while the alternatives imposed lesser of their character into the music. But nothing comes close to KPA's dynamics and ultra wide/deep...
Cartridge Loading...
Why not tell us what you have, so we can help with specifics. The numbers read funny thoug: very hard to imagine a 0.5mV output MC has impedance requirement of 500 ohm (i.e. the number of coil turns is high...).
What is the best tonearm at about 3000 budget?
The SME sounds like wet cloth, the Graham sounds cold, and VPI sounds like mashed potatoe, compared to Breuer.
headphone setup 500 used.
I have 3 headphones here, Sony CD3000 is so much better than the Sennheiser 580 and Etyomotic, driven by Headroom.
