KEF's meta material gimmick? I use a pair of LS50 Metas in one of my less serious systems and believe they are pretty amazing considering their small size. Not sure if the material is a gimmick, but they sure do perform and impress all who hear them.
Tube or solid state I agree with the majority of opinion expressed here: tube/tube if possible. Of the many combinations I’ve used, it’s amazing how vintage circa 1960 tube gear can compete and often best modern gear. Challenges so many notions in this hobby. Current...
Cables from amp to preamp or longer speaker cables… Get an extension for your headphone cable. That is much more practical than considering lengthening other cables.
Klipsch La Scala replacement? I have never owned La Scalas, but I love my Fortes… have III’s and IV’s. The IV’s are a step up over the III’s imo, especially in the midrange. The Fortes sound excellent with tube and vintage SS. They are at a fair price point, although I believ...
When were the best tube amps made? Having both vintage and new tube components, I prefer the older stuff - think Marantz 8B, Fisher 800c, Citation I and II, heck even my original Sansui 1000x is highly regarded in a sea of vintage and new solid state and tubes. The older stuff ofte...
Bob Carver tube amps With all the available alternatives, why trust a brand that is questionable at best???
My first tube integrated: which one to get? I agree a tube pre is a great starting point. In my experience, I get better sound when pairing tube amplifiers with tube preamp’s, but many like to mix tube and SS. I have a preference for vintage - Marantz 8B, Citation II, etc. Whichever route y...
Klipsch Speakers I own both Forte III’s and Forte IVs and can absolutely attest to several things. First, Klipsch horns can sound bright in certain systems. I had this problem with current McIntosh solid state, and it required tone control usage to get rid of the ...
Mesh network versus a simple Wi-Fi extender Mesh is superb in my experience. But as others have stated, hardwire when possible.
Solid state to tube My tube experience is mostly with vintage components - Marantz, Fisher, HH Scott, Mac. While I own substantially more SS pieces, I can’t get over how time and again my favorite combinations are tubes with horns. It’s true. Whether tube receiver or...
CD player suggestions... Rotel CD11 Tribute is an excellent player for the money, priced at $599.
Roger Waters Live Last Night in Glendale,AZ I won’t see Roger again after his last show was overshadowed with his political views. Took away from the music in a significant way. Poor showmanship IMO but it is his right to be a buffoon and others can decide whether to support him by buying h...
Most economical way to ship large speakers? Agree with above advice, try UShip. I had an awkward pair of Dahlquist DQ-10s brought from Chicago to Tulsa for half what others were charging.
Anyone using 2 preamps in their rig? I use 2 pre in one of my systems. Have a McIntosh C52 and utilize a fixed output from the C52 into a C20. It provides the best of both worlds- modern solid state and vintage tube. And both can operate driving different pairs of speakers individual...
Please recommend speakers for 45 watt SET amps I believe that horns love tubes and agree with others who have recommended Klipsch. Specifically, I think the Forte IV’s hit a sweet spot and may be a good fit for your room size. |
