Do speakers need to be re-broken in?
I recently rotated a pair of JBL 4430s in that had been sitting unused for 12 to 18 months. I absolutely believe the speakers improved over several days and suspect part of the reason is the capacitors getting used again.
Current quality of Rune
I’m a big Roon fan, running the Nucleus + core. All digital media is on the internal hard drive, it is reliable, streams to my primary system and to any other system with a Roon compatible device attached. I use Roon Arc anywhere in the world to a...
KEF LS50 Meta
I think the KEF LS50 Metas are terrific near field speakers. Very, very capable.
Insurance for system
I insure my collection in a separate policy my primary insurance broker shops for me. Every couple years we move around, but obtaining insurance has not been a problem. It is a policy similar to what would be used to cover fine art.

Recommendations for a shipper
I have used UShip with great success. It was a pair of refurbished Dahlquist DQ-10s, with stands, from Chicago to Tulsa. For those unfamiliar with the speakers, they are awkward in shape, and will not sit upright without their stands. It made for ...
Best Receiver?
I’ll throw out 2 that I am particularly fond of: Sansui G9000 outperforms the many vintage Marantz, Pioneer, Sansui and Kenwoods I have heard. Similar to the Fisher 500C recommendations above, my 800C is a jaw dropper of a performer.
Why do speakers improve with more powerful amps?
@carlsbad2 +1 I have a 450wpc amp that is outperformed by lower wattage amps. Many things are more important than power. This realization has me on the waiting list for a SET amp from Decware and I cannot wait!
McIntosh C22 (old & new) vs C2600
I purchased a C20 and had audio classics restore to spec. It is excellent and in many ways I prefer it over modern solid state. I cannot personally compare to modern tube, though, aside from an icon audio integrated I own that doesn’t get much pla...
Appropriate Apple table for Roon
I am very pleased with the Roon Nucleus+. It allows you to rip every CD and other digital files to its HD, plus stream high res audio. I operate it from my iPhone. From my experience the investment in nucleus is far superior to running the Roon so...
best SACD player
@onebean unfortunately the Marantz 30n and McIntosh MCT500 are in totally separate systems so I have not done an AB with them. The MCT500 will of course be highly dependent on the DAC you use. I have a Mac C52 and the results are superb. Interesti...
best SACD player
I love my Marantz SACD 8005 but enjoy the Marantz 30n even more. I make this recommendation having a McIntosh MCT500 in my primary system. Back to the 30n, it runs so extremely well and the HEOS app and streaming capability/Roon tested fits my nee...
Roon….The Gordon Knot of concierge musical services?
I took the plunge and got a Roon Nucleus+ and enjoy it very much. I think the strength of Roon is how robust their software is, at least when run on the nucleus. Added benefits, you’re able to rip all CDs and then put those in the attic. Another a...
Don't sell your tube amps
Interesting read. My 2 cents is that tubes remain very special and perform in ways solid state does not. How can a 60 year old tube component best a top of the line modern SS? I suspect tubes will be around and in demand by discerning consumers fo...
Stupid Asking Prices- Why Don't Sellers Read Audiogon The Blue Book First?
When evaluating purchases of vintage tube and SS gear, I have found the agon blue book to drastically understate FMV if you base FMV on the prices willing participants buy and sell gear for at places like audio mart, eBay, audioclassics, etc.
