Should I consider the newer Audio Research pre & power amps, when I play records not CD's They do not sound the same. That's the real problem. The newer one's are significantly warmer without being juicy compared to the original AR. I would go by your ears. Listen to Conrad Johnson, Cary and Prima Luna as well. Best,Erik
Patricia Barber, Cafe Blue "un-mastered" So I went back and listened again. I'm afraid I'll make few friends here after this. To my ears this CD did not age well at all. The tracks get a little better half way through the album, but overall it kind of reminds me of early Pop CD's and dig...
Why so much less for the new Oppo UDP-203? Also, no streaming is built in.
Patricia Barber, Cafe Blue "un-mastered" I'm really going to have to listen again. My living room is in chaos as I re-orient for best sound. I do remember hearing Cafe Blue at Goodwyn's High End for the very first time with an Avalon / Spectral setup and the only thing then or since I'v...
Filter tweak for digital backwash? Astron makes nice things, but I like meters, so they get more expensive! :)
Need Help with Subwoofer Choice For value/quality: HsuFor ease of installation: JL. As I've said before, the biggest audible difference in subs comes from the quality of the DSP/tuning and I think JL has one of the best right now. Hsu has only basic controls, which is fine for m...
Subwoofer without hi pass filter Hi! It's not absolutely necessary, but without it your man speakers and amps will still have to reproduce the bass, where most of the energy is. This will limit their dynamic range in terms of both excursion and amplifier power. Using a high pass ...
Patricia Barber, Cafe Blue "un-mastered" I'm going to have to pull out my redbook of this again. I do not remember it being all that. There were some high speed attacks at times, but despite the press, I never found it to be a super super great audiophile CD. I did think it was a very go...
Will a new sub sound better than my Velodyne F1200? What you are describing is poor room integration. Look up Room EQ Wizard, you'll find lots of information and people who want to help you. I strongly suspect you do not need a new sub, but a better integrated one. This may involve EQ as well as b...
Dielectric grease on connection ends I must have been thinking of silver instead of copper, my bad! Erik
Dielectric grease on connection ends I stand corrected! Must have!
Dielectric grease on connection ends By the way, unlike a lot of oxides, copper oxide is just as conductive as copper. :) Of course, I still use crimp bands and nice speaker connectors anyway. Best,Erik
Request advice-need "brighter" speakers than Totem Hawks Well don’t fully self diagnose yourself yet! I had that problem and it turned out to be wax build up so serious it required a technician. I switched to using a lotion soap, and thoroughly washing and rinsing with the shower head which has prevente...
Schiit Yggdrasil or Bryston BDA-2 opinions to help me choose! Listen to the Mytek's too!
Who thinks $5K speaker cable really better than generic 14AWG cable? I did a single-blind test with Mogami 14 guage stranded vs. Wireworld Eclipse 6 using neighbors who are jazz fans but not audiophiles at all.I did not mention which cable was which and was careful not to go "oh, but wait, this is going to be bette... |
