Why are my crossovers different
There is a small amount of series inductance that is proportional to the capacitance. The smaller the cap, the smaller the unintended inductance. Modern caps have gotten a lot better at reducing inherent inductance, so this is less of an issue tha...
Correct way to attach speaker wires... Wait, what!!!
Hi Autre, WBT is a famous German connector manufacturer. http://partsconnexion.com/connectors_brand_wbt.html
Correct way to attach speaker wires... Wait, what!!!
Bare copper is bad due to oxidation. The best long term solution is a crimped on banana or spade. Spades and screw materials should be SOFT! Cheap spades using pot metal or hard brass core are the worst. You want the spade to give and be pliable e...
Question about caps in vintage power monoblocks
hi Chattaudio,The electrolytics are what will eventually dry up. Not being used will help them last longer, but if you have a 30 yo piece of gear, it is time to seriously think about re-capping them no matter what. Also, the modern electrolytic pr...
DAC with multiple selective digital inputs
Mytek Brooklyn is my fave, with lots of inputs.
Need suggestions for streaming files to my stereo

Room treatments
Randy-11 ASC was at the show so I would assume they helped treat them, but I do not know for sure. Also, to the OP, contact GIK for advice. Super nice people, great range of affordable products.
Duelund cast Pio Hybrid Copper/Silver or Rs series with Silver Bypass PIO
Another approach not often talked about here is using parallel caps. Using larger value (10uF or so) caps, would be interesting to note if any boutique caps sound significantly better. Essentially self-bypassing. Best,E
Let's talk Tweeters!
Hi Realthing,The article I know of from Pass was about using current sources + EQ circuits for certain types of woofers, in which he felt you would get a better response. As far as I know, Pass has never attempted to sell all speakers as benefitin...
Which online HD and DSD web sellers are your fav joints for buying high res music?
Everyone is limited in some way. I like several artists at Blue Coast for DSD. I dislike almost all recordings I have downloaded from 2l.no Sometimes it's direct from the artist.Best,E
Samsung smart TV
Hi Zink,Two ways. Smart TV's have an optical output, but you can also output via the HDMI Audio Return Channel (ARC). It's a little funky since there is computer handshaking involved. Your receiver has to be HDMI compatible, AND it has to have ARC...
Need suggestions for streaming files to my stereo
@williewonka Yes, to all devices. It's just that no wifi device should be single band anymore. Dual band has been around for several years. Just something to watch out for. I have a SB Touch which I am using, but just added a 5GHz repeater to help...
Inherited 21 piece of vintage McIntosh and need help building a system
Make no mistake! That is a fabulous bit of kit. :) I just think the speakers may be the one thing to start upgrading, and then decide what you want to keep. That's a full stereo store's worth of gear. Best,E
Need suggestions for streaming files to my stereo
One reason not to use Bluesound: Seems to be single band WiFI. If you can use ethernet, no problem. But most apartment dwellers are saturated with WIfi signals in the 2.4GHz band. 5GHz is far more reliable. Wired Ethernet even more so. Best,E
Can any stereo amp be bridged to mono ?
Possibly. You cannot bridge amps with balanced outputs. Assuming your amp is single ended, then yes, you could do so but whether you could do so safely is another issue. Bridging doubles the voltage at the speaker inputs, which would double the cu...
