Whats in your second system?
Yes to the love and care. No to the costs. :) My second system is my PC/bedroom system. Consists of a Logitech Squeezebox Touch, NAD D 3020 integrated and my own custom speakers. Also added a 5 GHz extender/converter because normal Wifi in this ap...
Equalizers- love them or hate them and why?
A crossover is a type of filter, gdn!If you don't know what it's doing, best to leave it out of your signal chain. :) Best,E
We need DAC's with tone controls and EQ
Digital EQ / Tone controls are much more cost effective than cables or swapping speakers and amps. I don't always want them, but I wish they were part of our normal toolkit.I even find it difficult to find gear with a balance knob for Peete's sake.

That's interesting, Granny! I hate the subscription model though. Thanks for the Loki link, George! Erik
Equalizers- love them or hate them and why?
I avoid them in my mains, and use them heavily in my center and subwoofer. Part of it is my signal chain. I spent $2k for my DAC, $1K for my preamp, plus amps. I really don't want to put in more signal processing in between the two if avoidable. I...
Brooklyn DAC+ Anyone?
I have the Brooklyn, and it is my favorite < $5k DAC so far. The only glitches I have found is that, rarely, switching to 96/24 from 44/16 it doesn't do that right, but this may be due to my streaming software. You will hear it start to distort...
Mytek Brooklyn DAC: Anyone use as line stage preamp?
I really like the Brooklyn's line stage. It is outstandingly transparent. I would use it exclusively if it wasn't for the HT setup, so it goes through a Parasound P7, which is not quite as transparent.
Loud fizz with brand new Parasound Halo Integrated amplifier
The Parasound ZDac is an excellent unit, and Richard is very proud of the DAC in the integrated, so I think Parasound knows how to make reliable good sounding DACs. I would consider it defective. I have never heard of a defect with a Parasound Int...
Amp displays creeping volume gain
Definitely sounds like a malfunction. Try this with another source to be sure. Best,E
Loud fizz with brand new Parasound Halo Integrated amplifier
This happens to me when a DAC fails to lock. I switch to a radio station which is 96 kHz/24 bits, and every now and then my DAC thinks it is 44/16. Oddly, it mostly sounds OK. My housekeeper can't hear a difference, but I notice the distortion imm...
Speaker Placement Priority - wall clearance or perfect equilateral
Toe-in is very speaker and room dependent. With no side walls, usually pointing at your head to flat out is good. Modern Magico's for instance are best with none (fight me! :) ) If  you are cramped, setting the speakers wide and crossing in front ...
Speaker Placement Priority - wall clearance or perfect equilateral
It is a matter of trade-offs and values. There is no best answer, but good starting points. Ideally, you have no side walls at all, and you have no equipment between the speakers either. This is where high quality acoustic panels like GIK acoustic...
The best sounding music streamer/DAC on the market
Also, what streaming services do you want to use, and are you iPhone or Android?
The best sounding music streamer/DAC on the market
Super personal though. Talk more about your preference of gear. Audio Research or Conrad Johnson? Which is you? Erik
Charley Hansen (Ayre) Passed Away
Sad to hear it. I know very little of the fine folks at Ayre, but the diamond output stage was one of the few technical innovations I heard which actually amounted to anything. I'm a huge fan. My thoughts and prayers to his family and fans.Best,Erik
