Speed
Hey Crwindy,I put the perception of "speed" on a continuum. It's always good to compare to actual music, as sometimes this speed is just not something I hear in real life, or a good pair of headphones. The place where most speakers loose traction ...
Soundstage........
Part of imaging is also frequency response, there are a number of tweaks / cheats in speaker design that can enhance this. What I suggest is listen to your speakers from about 2-3' away. This will give you an idea of the very best performance, wit...
Best way to decrease the internal volume of a sealed speaker?
The last thing you want is flexible materials. They will increase your internal volume. If you want to permanently increase it, and don't have room for the usual brick / wood block ideas I suggest a 2-part mixable epoxy that dries hard. You may al...
804 d3 amplification
My only concern is I've heard McIntosh described as bright. Bad combo with that tweet. You want mellow to neutral amps. YMMV.E
Anyone With A Class 'D' Amp Play A 4 or 2 Ohm Speaker?
Oh, I should point something out. ICEPower does very well with low impedance in the bass, less so with electrostats (more or less). Hypex, at least technically, does better with low impedance in the treble. Again, More or less, and YMMV. :) Best,E
Anyone With A Class 'D' Amp Play A 4 or 2 Ohm Speaker?
Really depends, but most Class D amps do pretty well with these. Hypex nCore is especially well suited to low impedance loads. Best,E
high frequency intermittent noise
Um, do NOT "short" your speaker wires! The example in fig. 4 is fine, but it is most certainly NOT a short, it is the opposite, a choke. Given however that you even have powered speakers having this issue, the problem is probably too late by the t...
Can a Quality Full Range Speaker be the Limiting Component in a system?
I am having trouble not reducing this down to a very simple question:"Are quality loudspeakers ever non-linear" to which the answer is of course yes. But if you want some simple terms, how about dynamic compression? That is, +3dB input results in ...
Stand alone tweeter?
@gondo101 What speaker do you have? Also, here's some free, or nearly free ideas. First, throw some blankets/pillows around on the floor between the speakers and even behind them. See if any of that helps. If your tweeter is mounted on a panel, PS...
Amplification for Wilson Audio Sasha on the cheap
Ncore Class D would be ideal. Also check out NuForce.Best,E
Are HT speakers best for primary audio listening or not?
Hi Jim,Just in general, kind of depends on how neutral a speaker you like for music, which I need to define for this conversation:Neutral: Plays many types of music equally well. Those types of speakers do really well with HT. However, if you like...
Connect Bose VI equalizer to Mcintosh C2500 and Amp without Tape Looping
I'm confused. Right now it IS or is NOT in the Preamp's tape loop? You have the equivalent, which is the "Processor Loop". Treat it as if it was tape in/out. "To/From" is relative ot the processor. So "To" goes to the right pair of jacks. "From" g...
high frequency intermittent noise
Consider snap-on ferrite beads. Relatively cheap. Worth at least experimenting on interconnects and power cords. http://amzn.to/2hLhLG9Best,E
high frequency intermittent noise
I'm afraid it turned into a long thread. Very sorry the Furman didn't work out for you. :( I'm not clear on something. Does this problem occur with just the bare amps / powered speakers, or does it require a preamp / interconnect to be present? Be...
Dedicated Music server vs Mac mini on a Devialet via Ethernet (AIR) connection
The biggest issues with the Mac Mini seems to be the power supply. If you can solve that, either by using it on battery only or getting a linear supply you are good.Best,E
