B&W 802d3 vs 802d2
I’m not a huge fan, but one thing that I see listeners mistake is listening to B&W diamonds on tweeter axis, when it seems measurements and listening experience are better lower. My personal preference is for Wilson, Monitor Audio and Revel, b...
Ayre QX-5 - maximize use and wiring question.
You actually CAN use it for television, but you only get 2 channels out. Have to make sure the source is set up correctly though. It won't understand Dolby Digital at all, but that's often configurable. I'd consider what a really good integrated c...
Is there a difference in sound quality when streaming TIDAL Vs CD player
You should listen for yourself. No difference = no worries. The big advantage of HDMI in this case is the multi-channel and bass management in your receiver. Best,E
Constrained layer damping tape on toroidal transformer?
No. You could insulate the transformer, causing it to heat up, and the conductor itself could have currents forced in it, causing it to heat and melt. If you are trying to reduce physical hum, better to look at the mounting method and eliminate DC...
High End SS Preamplifier Ayre, EMM Labs, ML, or Pass
I'm very very happy with my Luxman, but thinking about it, Ayre and Pass ....To my ears different beasts. You should listen for yourself because I can't see myself liking both Ayre AND Pass products at the same time.
Vibratory or Not?
Wait, is the whole point of this threat to distinguish between vibrations in a physical medium, and oscillations which occur in the electromagnetic spectrum? That's why we have oscilloscopes! :) Best,E
Dual vs single sub
Room treatment. EQ.
Why Are HI-RES Downloads So Expensive?
Hey Zerobias,I have good news for you, though it may not be what you want to hear. In the last 5-10 years DACs have improved a huge amount. I started a thread on this, but the basic idea is that in particular Redbook playback is so good now that D...
How much do we at A'gon influence the industry?
One of the retailers in Denver cautioned me about Audiogon because he felt some of the information was not always accurate. Oh, dear lord, but this is true for forums and dealers in general as well.  Paradigm is also not mentioned which indica...
Adding a Pre-Out to an integrated tube amp
I may be mistaken, but I thought the main benefit of speaker level connections was for powered subs, that accept speaker level inputs, with the sub's input coming from the speaker level outputs of your main speakers' amp or amps I think o...
high pass filter options
Hi OP! What I suggest instead is that you use a MiniDSP to optimize your sub's output. The contra of this solution is a single one: Your main amp and speakers won't gain any headroom.  Unless dynamic headroom is an issue for you, this is a good fe...
Xfinity cable box directly to amp produces notably superior SQ than cable box > DAC > amp
Sometimes soundstage comes from sacrificing treble. That may very well be what you are hearing.
Vibratory or Not?
Michael..... I'm really not sure what you are asking here. Your use of the word "vibratory" seems to have usage I am not familiar with. Can you restate for those of us less well versed?Best,Erik
Adding a Pre-Out to an integrated tube amp
If this is a high quality integrated leave it alone. Sell it and get something that works for you. Leave first time electronics hacking to cheap gear you don't mind ruining. Best,E
new equipment power conditioner or more powerful amp?
Spend about $120 on a Furman power strip like this one:https://amzn.to/2TkbFtjAnd the rest on room acoustics. GIK Acoustics and Michael Greene Audio are good places to start.
