I went from Class D to Luxman A/AB - And most of what you think is wrong
When I started this thread I was really worried that Goerge would have gotten too old and tired not to raise the same tired and irrelevant tropes he always does, but whatever held him back before, it's good to see he's recovered and fit as a fiddl...

Thanks @melvinjames, Honestly I think it's just 30 year old biases. We might as well be complaining that solid state gear isn't as reliable as tubes again. Best,E
My Triad of Integrateds
@glupson Yeah, accuphase and the latest Yammies are models I'd like to hear for sure!

Not if you talk to a designer of a class D amp :) Your need to go on ad nauseum without actually addressing the points I made is actually kind of like watching a fetish in public.

But even with an digital source built into the amp, its still an analog process. There are people who are going to argue all audio amplifiers are by definition, analog, but we don’t call DAC’s analog either. If an amp samples the input into discr...
Rec Out to Headphone Amp
Yes. Rec out provides what is called a line-level signal, which headphone amps expect. About the only RCA connection that won't work is from a turntable without a built in pre.

They are an entirely analog process.  And for the most part in the nCore/ICEpower/Pascal/TI world this is true, though recent amplifiers from Technics blur the line further, with an A/D stage, DSP processing and unknown amounts of analog feedbac...
Preamp, digital crossover & room correction for 3 way stereo - DEQX HDP-5, Trinnov, other?
Hey Al, Right. I'm not sure how that works either. Speaker design (active or passive) involves a number of choices. Filter points, slopes, eq, etc. About the only thing you don't worry about as much with active is the impedance curve and filter in...
Preamp, digital crossover & room correction for 3 way stereo - DEQX HDP-5, Trinnov, other?
So you know, building an active speaker still requires proper time/phase alignment just like with a passive crossover. So you'll need a way to measure the drivers and driver combinations to ensure proper integration with each other. Too often I've...
What Audiophiles Could Learn from Food Scientists
btw, on Harmon - I think sometimes the things the average customer likes about a customer in a quick showroom demo may be different from what makes them happy night after night at home. Listener fatigue is a big thing IMO. This is, to me, a ...
Metal cabinet speakers
It has been out of production for ages, but don't forget the Celestion SL600 in Aerolam. http://www.hifi-classic.net/review/celestion-sl600-505.html
PC vs streamer
Oh, almost forgot. How about using a Bluetooth streamer?? The little Fiio BTR3 is one of the best sounding headphone amps I've ever heard. Add a USB-C power supply and adapter cable:https://amzn.to/2JyamEh
PC vs streamer
If you stream via USB to a modern DAC, that's a pretty good source, especially if you are careful about using direct audio and not the PC's volume control. The usual culprit however is the power supply, especially laptops. You cant to keep them as ...
Linear Power Supply Question
An alternative which may be less expensive, is to use a separate power conditioner to to clean up the digital gear. Here’s my current thinking: https://inatinear.blogspot.com/2019/04/power-management-for-frugal-audiophiles.html
Using UK 230v in US
I looked at the internal pics. IF it's like I think it is, then almost any tech could do this for you, in about 15 minutes. Best,E
