What am I missing? Pre/power gain and input sensitivity.
Remember that preamps tend to have fixed gain stages internally.
Cable for B&W 800 series using Bryston amplification
I think you’d really like the Wireworld sound with those speakers. They take a little off the top end in exchange for warmth and imaging.
What do you think of my upgrades?
Talk to Fritz and ask him to make you some true bookshelf speakers. :) Also consider some adjustable footers from IsoAcoustics so you can tilt the speakers down. Ask Fritz to preinstall them, or use the IsoAcoustics stands.  I think you want less ...
What am I missing? Pre/power gain and input sensitivity.
See, here’s the thing about the internet: zero editorial standardsSome people need to prove this every day. Think of gain as a voltage multiplier. 26 dB of amp gain ~ 20x the input voltage. 16 dB ~ 6x the input voltage. Of course, every device has...
Focal vs B&W vs ???
I think the room is going to be challenging. I like the Focal's much more than B&W.  I find them closer to neutral and transparent, but they do need room or good treatment to work well.  Both of these speaker brands tend to make challenging de...
Upgrade Suggestions - Entry Level Setup
Dahli -- Is this a southern brand, like "dahling?" hahahaha.
Storing DSD/PCM files and playing through a DAC
How do you like the Roon's sound quality? I like it a great deal.  I'm particularly happy being able to do digital domain equalization with it. :)

Room panels. The Dali's have a tilted up tweeter level, which makes them great for some, but they benefit more from a good room. Instead of attempting DIY, talk to GIK acoustics.  They make very reasonably priced, very effective materials. I'd lea...
Will Quantum computing change the DAC game (in our lifetimes)?
Quantum computing, as far as I know, affects the processing of data, not the encoding of it. More likely quantum and AI will be used to better understand how we hear and design various different encoding mechanisms, but I don't see this as coming ...
Adding a sub to modest system
Here are my thoughts of things to consider:https://speakermakersjourney.blogspot.com/2020/04/how-to-not-buy-subwoofer.html
Tubed Monos for Focal Aria 948s
My past experience with Focals is that they can develop a distinct L, C and R image, but without the ability to fill in between.  I was able to fix this with just a little toe in.
Question re: DAC with network/streaming capability
Maybe the new Luxman DC-03X ?
Storing DSD/PCM files and playing through a DAC
The type of drive will depend largely on the size of your library, but in general, any drive will be fast enough, but SSD has faster access times and no moving parts so they emit no mechanical noise. USB 2.0 will be fast enough. If you want to put...
Subwoofers - Front Firing or Down Firing - Which Sounds Best?
I know the experts say it ain’t so but my old mirage with 2 opposite side firing woofers does a really good job without needing any room correction software. I’m no expert, but I’ve also never felt this was a must. Rooms vary, and subs vary in how...
